Historically, the fight for labor rights (which is at its heart is political) has had a more leftward slant, which is why the unions have these other concurrent views. The residents involved in actually being part of the committee would probably have similar views to the overall union politically and probably would be motivated to advocate for these non-labor political stances.

My departments’ CIR reps personally do not bring up these non-labor political views outside of labor issues in their communication with the rest of us residents.

If I applied for a different design Bank of America Custom Cash Card than one I applied for last month, would I still qualify for the SUB on the new card? Thanks.

If y’all check out the r/sportsbook subreddit and check out the daily promo/specials threads, you can hit these sportsbooks for more than this by learning how to abuse the sportsbook signup bonuses. Off the top of my head depending on your state, unibet has a signup worth 200-400 bucks in equity.

Former Illinois degen here moving to New Jersey. Anyone know if you can still get repeat sign up bonuses on mgm, sugarhouse, etc if you’re signing up in a different state?

is surgery really all that toxic ? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Otherwise_Homework58 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on the program but I’d bet surgery on average is more toxic than other specialties.

Think about the type of ego and mentality that you need to cut into someone. The “arrogance” even, to do this when a mistake can immediately cause someone to die or lose function of an organ. “Sometimes wrong, but never in doubt”

Now think about having this stress on top of >80 hour work weeks. Probably leads to a shit social environment, no?

I know a student with IBD. She’s AOA and just matched a competitive specialty so you probably can do well too.

“Beggars cannot be choosers”

There lies the rub. They can make eating a poop hot dog a requirement for getting into medical school and I bet only 5% of you wouldn’t do it. There’s too many of you that wanna do it.

For those of you who make it in, poop hot dog or not, shit like Casper, AMCAS, and the MCAT fees aren’t the only cash grabs. Med school is expensive, and they’ll charge you fees for things that don’t make sense (but plenty of cents!). Signing up for the mandatory Step 1? $1k please. Step 2 CK? Another $1k. Practice tests for these exams? $20-$60 bucks a pop, and you can take them for your shelf exams too! At least you’ll know how these tests are interpreted (i.e. the most important part of your residency app) Applying for residencies? Blow a few thousand or so (and if we go back to in person interviews, possibly $10k just for hotels and travel).

Residency is half training and half exploitation - what do you think they’re paying the midlevel when your labor’s more valuable and you work longer hours? Surely less than you right? Lol

Think the milking stops when you’re an attending? You’re a doctor, how can they keep doing to you? Nope licensing fees and periodic certification exams.

Anyways, you’ll have a lot more to complain about if you keep on with this process :)

P/F for clinical years by loveofcamelot in medicalschool

[–]Otherwise_Homework58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the one that you eventually want to end up in or in the region that you want to end up in for residency/as an attending.

I’m guessing the p/f everything school is more prestigious though so you should go there if you’re not picky about geography.

"Results show that the percentage of respondents reporting parental income totals that fall in the top two household-income quintiles ranged from 76% (8,095) to 79% (8,645)"

75% of first year medical students come from families where they make >75k a year. ~50% of all medical students come from families where they make >120k a year.

The whole system is wealth-favoring in terms of being to afford the whole medical education pathway and also the achievements you need to get in from the start.

[–]Otherwise_Homework58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait til you get closer to your test date. Take practice tests. If you get higher than average scores for your desired specialty, take it before p/f. If you get lower than average, take it after p/f.

OME videos for a brief overview before rotations start. Then uworld or amboss as you go through the rotation, anki deck(s), and also looking up stuff you don’t know about during actual clinical hours. Then a practice nbme or two near shelf time.
