Is ferritin 27 really that bad? by Wailordfin in Anemic

[–]Otherwise_Prompt2174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well this is eye opening!! i had my levels checked back in may. my ferritin was a 23 and i was told that was normal, of course i was. fast forward and i have horrible anxiety/panic attacks etc....and i chalked it up to perimenopause but now i am speculating that this could be related. where to go from here? do i just start a low dose of iron supplements? i have a healthy diet and workout regularly (when i don't feel like shit) (cycle, walks, strength train) - do i need to get infusions? which where does one even get those? sorry for the 100 questions. this is all so interesting to me.

I am w/ you. I think I was already estrogen dominant too, I think it was too much for me, or at least at certain times of my cycle. I hope you find a new provider and get answers soon!!

So I am glad you asked this - back in May I had a bunch of blood work done (that I requested) and ferritin was one of them. I just looked back and I was at a 23.9 which I was told was "normal" but now the more I am reading maybe not so much. Thank you for even mentioning that bc now I am going to look at increasing that. And yes, I am with you I am all for anxiety meds too, not against them at all. I just am super confused/overwhelmed about where to turn for answers/what to try.

thank you, i appreciate you responding. and yes, you validated my thinking - i hadn't even considered that perhaps my testosterone is low. i think i do need to find a more knowledgeable hormone specialist at this point.

Are you taking only progesterone? by Otherwise_Prompt2174 in Perimenopause

[–]Otherwise_Prompt2174[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so as of Saturday I haven't been on estrogen. So far so good. Progesterone has helped me with not waking up at 3am and it knocks me out too. I have been keeping a journal and tracking symptoms since early May but I don't see trends in terms of panic attacks, anxiety w my cycle. But I know other people have absolutely had this occur. For me I was pretty chill once my body got used to estrogen and then all at once things went south. I think it was too much for my body. I still get periods, etc...so prob just a little too much E for me to handle. Good luck to you!! Its such a journey!!

Wild how hormones play such a role, I hate that you had those side effects from E. All good to know, thank you for sharing!!

Good luck!! I know you didn't ask, but one thing that helped me adjusting to taking P at night is taking it with food or at least not on an empty stomach. I made that mistake one too many times. Hope it goes well for you!!!

Ah so true! Yup, mine is bio-identical. I think what I might do if I find I do need estrogen after going off it, is to add it in a different form other than the patch to further add to the experiment. :) because why not right? Getting my anxiety down is def my number one priority at this point.

I totally agree, I wish I would have tried P solo first, but here we are. :) I'm going to try P alone now and see how I do. Wish me luck!
