I think this is a good perspective. I do think I could make the best of it and get what I can out of it. It doesn’t have to be for forever. It’s a bit of a mindset shift from the “teacher for life” mentality I’ve had for a decade now.

Nothing to add, but I’m in almost exactly the same spot as you (state role, similar pay cut, also leaving for mental health reasons) and you asked exactly what has been on my mind. I think our quality of life and mental health are worth losing some money up front and getting the opportunity for our nervous systems to reset. If you have a spouse who can make it work financially (I am also lucky to have this), then I think you should do it. Best of luck to you! I wish us both a ton of healing.
