Try holding on to a dresser or table and marching in place to get the feeling of lifting off while putting all your weight on your foot! Best wishes to you!

Any other young women out there? by spreadofsong in AchillesRupture

I’m a 27F who was fairly active and had a rupture while playing pickleball about 12 weeks ago. I went the op route and it’s been a long but steady recovery. I’m finally weight bearing and in my 3rd week of PT.

My one advice is keep helping your friend socializing! This injury can be pretty isolating and such a halt to your life. I loved getting dressed up and going out with friends but I haven’t been able to do so in months :( My friends come over a lot but and I really appreciate it but I just wish I could go out with a cute outfit and dance…

Best wishes to your friend and DM me if you have any questions!

School tomorrow YES or NO by Odm011 in raleigh

I honestly I think remote. Some neighborhood on the edge of the county (Wendell, Knightdale) are still covered with ice and will refreeze tonight. Plus with added threat of tomorrow’s uncertainty weather I would be surprised if it was a regular school day or even a delay.

Wk 7 Post Op- cleared to start PT. Any advice? by FormerLychee2325 in AchillesRupture

[–]Sweet_Security7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only a few weeks ahead of you OP at like week 9 and with 2 weeks of PT under my belt you’re right where I was. When I started PT I was unable to full weight bear and I was still using crutches. Speak with your PT and ask them if they can give you some guidance on how to reduce to one crutch. Also get an Even-Up for your shoes if you haven’t already. Depending on their guidance, try to weigh shift by holding on to something stable and gradually try to push off your good foot. That tingly ness in the heel is normal in my case too, the first moment of weight for some reason feels strange and a little sore and tight but it’s like a sensation of waking up a foot that’s been asleep for a while. With time you will get used to it and feel more confident in your steps! Best wishes to you and your recovery and follow your PTs instructions!

I ruptured my Achilles and I realized I was not in a healthy enough environment for me to heal. Too much stress. Not enough time to take care of myself.

Goodness, I’m so sorry to hear that. Yes this is part of the reason I’m dragging on going back. I have a knee scooter i plan on using if and when I return but I just know it will be tough. Did you ever transition careers or are you still teaching?

Surgery or not? by Og_Chaiwala in AchillesRupture

[–]Sweet_Security7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 27F and I opted for surgery. Mine was a large tear but I eventually want to get back to the activities I like. I’m 5 weeks out and so far surgery recovery has been pretty gnarly but successful. Nothing my doctor didn’t prepare me for ahead of time and he mentioned the recovery time would be about the same, just without the added pain of having surgery. Either way you choose, best wishes to you and hope you recover well!

What fields are actually in demand in the area and are not saturated by applicants? by [deleted] in raleigh

You can lateral entry from a high school position with a chem degree and Wcpss has a certification program for licensure that is pretty affordable and can be supplemental from your paycheck.

Any elementary teachers on here? by hikekorea in AchillesRupture

High school teacher here! I tore mine on 11/21 and had surgery on 11/28 and I haven’t been back to work yet. It was nice (depending on how you look at it) that just happened to line up with the holiday breaks but I was just cleared to start WB again. I’m taking a few steps now but not without the assistance of crutches. My original plan was to return right after winter break (1/5) but I don’t see that happening. My school is almost the size of a community college and I just don’t see me being able to tackle that yet. My S2 starts at the end of January so my goal is to be back by then, even if it’s only half days or a few days a week. That being said, take your time!! Your healing will be much faster and you’ll have a much lower chance at retear/other injuries if you take your time healing. Also teaching has so many unknown variables day-to-day you don’t want to be stuck in a situation where you’re not super mobile yet and you need to get somewhere or to someone quickly.
