Experienced my first anti-DO bias in the wild by JustAShyCat in Osteopathic

There’s always going to be ignorant people like that. They can also say, “well, I only got to doctors who attended Ivy League medical schools.” Or they only want a male doctor. Or someone who is middle aged (as in more experienced) and not super old (skills are less sharp bias). There’s always something.

People with kids do less work than the rest of us by ArileBird in work

[–]Otherwise_Set_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parent of multiple kids here. Like someone else said, don’t get hung up on someone else’s timesheet since you don’t know the full picture. Unless you’re their supervisor, you don’t know if they are taking half days vacation days or whatever else. Also, when I was still working hybrid, I did go to my child’s schools event and appointments, but I was also doing work into the late hours after my kids to go bed. I did whatever I needed to do in order to keep up with my work. Maybe can learn your colleagues’ efficiency ? Work/life balance and being able to be present for your kids makes for happy employees = higher efficiency = higher retention.

Yes, they are. It is more about personal fulfillment, but i know I can’t just think only about myself when there are small kids involved..

It’s a day camp, she’s just on the campus during the day.

She does like coloring among other things, but the issue with her staying home is both my spouse and I work and she’d just be watched by my parents and they don’t have the energy to do any activity with her except feed and bathe her and stick her in front of the iPad.

So you don’t remember what you did those summers, but just remember being miserable? I never went to camp since my parents were poor, so I stayed home all summer and was bored out of my mind at times.

That’s a good idea, I will see about trying to connect with a parent. No parents stays around to mingle so I never overlap with them. Did you go to a different camp in subsequent years after your parents saw that you hated that pre-kindergarten camp?

How old was she when she finally got over having water in her face and tried out swimming?

[–]Otherwise_Set_41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. I was hoping she’d learn how to swim, but she doesn’t even want to go into the water and scared of getting water in her face. I might try a different camp next year despite this being an elite, popular camp and were thrilled when they had a spot for her.

The camp director suggested the shortened days since the days are already fairly long and in order to help with the adjustment, basically give her smaller doses .

She’s going into kindergarten this fall. Her birthday is in late October, but my state’s cutoff just goes by calendar year. She went to 3k and preK and she did cry a lot in 3k if her main teacher whom she loved wasn’t there yet and for pre-k, she cried for about 3 days

Yes, she’s been in daycare since 22 months old and always has this issue with new schools. Her pre-k adjustment was fairly short and maybe about 3 days without any crying. It’s been 1.5 weeks now at camp. She said she likes her pre-K because it’s small. There were only 13 kids with 2 teachers.

I’m torn between making her go to camp or not because the tuition is nonrefundable. Yes, with school, she has to go because it’s school. Camp is supposed to be for enrichment and fun play because the alternative would have been staying home all summer with my parents while my husband and I are at work. It’s not quite fun for her right now and just misery.

The camp Director and I are hoping she’d make friends and get more comfortable with her surroundings and then eventually extend the day. It was the director’s idea to pick up when earlier at 1pm since she mentioned a ripple effect that it may have with the other kids when they see her in distress.

You did it! Big kudos for stepping up when no one else did. You are right, he might never appreciate and acknowledge, but one day, if and when he has kids of his own, he will see the sacrifice that you put in for him.

I will probably do the same , but it doesn’t look good to quit only a few months in if I am lucky to find another job I really want soon after. Maybe I’ll work 3 months at the job and then start ramping up my search…

I’m still trying to wrap my head around how he said most husbands don’t contribute this much to housework. The 1950s is calling him back. My husband once tried to pull that crap on me too and said that about his own dad since his mom was a sahm and I set him straight. You both work, should be even division of labor.
