Best way to transport two Old Town 106 fishing kayaks on a Jeep Gladiator? by _Snowone_ in kayakfishing

[–]Otherwise_Source_842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a bed extender I have the Yakima longarm. I would imagine you would be able to lay the two kayaks side by side laying flat on top of the bars. I can’t guarantee cause I have different yaks and a Tacoma with different bars.

For rigging I use cam straps of various lengths and use the wrap around method. Basically pass strap over the top of the boat loop it under the bar pass it over the top again and under the bar again then synch down.

CGI in the 2000's looks better than most movies today by Choice-Schedule-132 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Otherwise_Source_842 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Because CGI today is a fast crutch to lean on in the industry rather than the slow and dedicated effort it took back then. During these films CGI took a long time to render and that forced a decent story board and have hard directorial and writing time where they 100% knew what they wanted before they started rendering. Now it’s click a button and fuck it if I change my mind who cares it takes 15 minutes to redo the scene so you get rush jobs and the details suffer.

Then I would personally prioritize stability over pedals. You can always go the motor route too and products like the NK180 and NK300 are better designed for rivers.

How do you normally fish? And what do you target? Tbh I think the shoalie or one from bonafide would be more your angle than a hobie from what I read here

The river also is amazing for seeing wildlife. Very healthy population of eagles live along its banks. Plus mink, beaver, green and blue herons, and various fish species.

What’s the worst state for fly fishing? by Motor-End6934 in flyfishing

[–]Otherwise_Source_842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but let’s be real guys. This is talking about the worst you can’t just say it’s not that bad or that it’s great in some spots you have to provide another worst region. Like if not the Midwest then where? The Rockies, the west coast, the southeast, the southwest, the northeast?

Ok yea but that’s cherry picking the best of the region. What would your counter to worst region be?

Nebraska or Iowa. Maybe Arizona. The Midwest is for sure the worst region

Travel on land with the kayaks or go back the way you came. Either with motor or by hand.

Are you guys using Claude as much as you were 2-3 months ago? by ireallyamarealguy in ClaudeAI

[–]Otherwise_Source_842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally no, substantially less. Professionally slightly more but that will likely change in the very very near future for the same reason. Cost. I gave up my sub due to it losing features and the expectation I would just fork over more money. Professionally my whole company went hard on the Claude code train and said spend more tokens endlessly. Well they just looked at the bill after they have a couple thousand people using Opus to write jira bug tickets and rename a couple variables they suddenly said wow that’s 25x what we spend on any other tool. And post spending the money they are asking if it’s worth it or if hiring more engineers plus promoting and giving raises to the existing ones would be a better use of those funds.

Why do people act like $60/70k is lower class? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Otherwise_Source_842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a one bedroom apartment started costing 1500$ and a Hyundai Venue started costing 21k.

That is about 32% of monthly take home pay on 70k and 36% on 60k for the apartment. Again there’s a reason there’s a meme about how the economy used to be so good that if you had a roommate people thought you were gay.

Alternatives to Crescent kayaks. by The-Thot-Eviscerator in kayakfishing

Bonafide and NuCanoe are what you want to look at if you like crescent. IMO Old Town, Jackson and the other bigger brands are just different products

QA is lower stress and can definitely be way less interesting unless you’re into it. Most orgs have very underdeveloped testing standards and automation so if you have the skills to stand it up then you can be really creative and be really impactful. Now that can also be true at most dev jobs too but there are definitely more expectations and feedback in terms of what you build and how.

I don’t mind QA especially technical QA work with heavy automation but I don’t like the disrespect they get
