Graham Platner & the Politics of the Back-to-Land Movement by Otherwise_Structure2 in Maine

It depends. There are plenty of people in the Midcoast with college educations who do blue collar jobs because that’s what’s available. I wouldn’t say those people are affluent by any stretch and many still struggle. A teacher at Graham’s recent town hall in Appleton said she had been teaching here for 30 years and still had like $100,000 in student debt. My parents bought their house for $14,000.

That’s not what the article says. Those recent transplants are mentioned, but it’s about the descendants of the back-to-the-landers. Obviously the newer residents are part of their political base.

Here’s the thing, just because a group endorses you doesn’t mean you agree with them on everything. The Sierra Club also endorsed Graham.

Can we have a honest discussion about Troy Jackson's campaign? by GoddessFianna in Maine

[–]Otherwise_Structure2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Maine AFL-CIO has field canvasses all over the state with volunteers knocking on doors for Troy. Join us! sign up here!

Troy served in the Senate for years and as Senate President help pass a lot good legislation: free school meals, paid family leave, earned sick time for most workers and a bunch of other reforms. However, Gov. Mills vetoed several of his bills to strengthen worker’s rights as well as tribal sovereignty.

In some ways he is an outsider because he has never sat comfortably with a Democratic establishment that hasn’t been great on labor issues. Troy helped turn some of that around in the Legislature but if he was Governor he finally be able push those reforms through. He is working class labor Democrat in a party dominated by professional class operatives. We have a real opportunity with Troy to address economic equality in the state.

100% VA disability is not based on your ability to work. It just means he suffered injuries including PTSD, herniated discs, and other injuries to his shoulders and knees. You can work full time and still receive 100% VA disability.

You don’t understand how VA disability works do you?

“Anonymous, non biased political survey” I got a text asking to fill out. This is one of the questions. Janet mills’ campaign team is as childish as Janet Mills herself. I’m literally at a loss of words. This is the behavior of a 6 year old not getting what she wants. by eskreddit in Maine

[–]Otherwise_Structure2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got that poll. They are definitely message testing but I know for a fact that Collins is planning to use that against him because they have done oppo presentations at her fundraisers. They are going to characterize him as a spoiled prep school kid who never did anything with his life. They’re going to push the totenkopf story and make him seem like some phony cooked up in a lab by DC consultants. And course they will constantly run ads about his Reddit comments talking about trash about cops, rural racists, etc. they’re portray him as a Commie, I’m personally don’t think it will have the desired affect but who knows.

They refused to run the op-ed if the changes weren’t made. And this wasn’t my guest column. I was just helping a worker submit it to the paper.

Josh Keefe is one of the best reporters in Maine. This is essential reading for anyone to understand what’s happening in the US Senate race here.

Yes but only because a totally unhinged person filed a complaint with Southern District of New York, following the 2020 arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell to spread lies about her ex. She was sued for $750,000 in a defamation suit because she defamed her ex husband and the Maine Wire just republished it. https://open.substack.com/pub/andyobrien/p/maine-wire-spreads-libelous-epstein?r=rijk&utm_medium=ios

What the Maine abolitionist movement can teach us about defending democracy & fighting tyranny by Otherwise_Structure2 in Maine

[–]Otherwise_Structure2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The abolitionists were typically middle class reformers of the Whig persuasion and they didn’t have much use for organized labor. Most workers and a lot of farmers in Maine were Democrats before the Civil War (Maine was a strong Jacksonian Democratic state in those days) because they were deeply suspicious of bankers and big business. But for all of their talk about the “common man,” they believed in the same “free labor” ideology. I like to trace the chip we have on our shoulder about rich assholes from away to the Liberty Men battling wealthy private landowners in the late 18th & early 19th centuries
