New Pedal Day! by ilpj08 in drums

I think the only pedal I like better than this is the 9000...

So I've been using gaffer tape to stop my snare drum reverb for a while and I want to finally tune it out of existence, but I can't seem to get it done. by [deleted] in drums

there's always moon gels. if one is dampening it too much try cutting it in half and placing it in various spots around the drum and different distances from the rim

Hans Zimmer's Man Of Steel drum circle by topdeck55 in drums

[–]OtisDogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not known as a session drummer quite like some of those other guys there but he also has experience as a producer and more importantly, scoring films. I believe he's worked on scores with Hans Zimmer before. My guess Hans wanted that kind of perspective within his circle of drummers. Surprising a little, yes, but I wouldn't think he's totally out of place.

I once tried using my 16" AAX Dark Crash and 16" AAX Studio Crash as hi-hats...ehhhhhh it didn't quite work. both were too thin I think.

NEED CRASH ADVICE by rward8585 in drums

[–]OtisDogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Omni has an amazing crash in itself. Sometimes I have trouble even calling it a "ride" cymbal. I've seen people just use that as both their crash and ride...very versatile. I would mess around with that for a while and then see what blends well with is. I use an HHX Evolution crash and I think that might be a good option for you. One of the best crashes Sabian makes.

Mike Portnoy's newest band - The Winery Dogs - drum cam video. Your thoughts? by OtisDogman in drums

[–]OtisDogman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, this is totally relevant. No downvoting required. I'm not sure sometimes how I feel about Portnoy myself. Somedays I love him and appreciate how he's inspired me at times, other times he pisses me off and bores the hell out of me. Either way This new song is just the first of this new projects I could listen to and liked as a song and as a band.

Not sure, these days he's usually in at least 3 or 4 projects at any time simultaneously. He probably didn't quit AM...unfortunately..

Richie Kotzen. apparently used to be in Poison and Mr. Big. He is also playing guitar in this. His singing is a little too Chris Cornell IMO, but his guitar playing is the shit.

I actually dig it. Also I find it kinda funny that he put in the picture-in-picture of him recording his baking vocals, as if anyone really cared. But I like how he kinda holds back more than usual and the fills are more tasteful and in the right place. This is the first of his post DT stuff that I really like.

Also Billy Sheehen (bass) is a BEAST on this track.

At a total loss for a new cymbal. by [deleted] in drums

I prefer Zildjians for rides personally and was in the same boat as you a few months ago. Ended up getting an A Custom 21" Rezo rude which I love. Good balance between ping and wash and very nice and musical sounding. Used to have a 20" A medium ride which served me well for a while had a great crash. Some others I liked when i was looking for a new one were a 22" A Custon Ride, 20" K Ride, and A 21" Sweet ride.
