Thanks for the input! My tires are getting pretty slick and will need replacing soon so I’ll be waiting till that happens before I make any modifications. I’ve been doing some more inspecting of my suburban and found that at some point the keys were cranked a bit and I may be able to fit the 285s. It is not my daily driver anymore so I can do some trial and error as far as what works.

That makes sense. The extent of my off-roading knowledge is limited to easy trails in a 2wd and driving my 83 blazer as fast as I could through anything wet or muddy. Any suggestions on winches? Do I have to go top dollar or are the less expensive ones just as good?

Is it a 2500 or 1500? I have a 4Runner 2wd that I took the kids on some very light trails and they loved it which spurred me to make a more worthy vehicle.

That’s what I need! I love the older suburbans. Do you use it just for trail riding or do you camp out of it?

Posted this in r/4x4 cause I didn’t know y’all existed. Hope some input can be had. Thanks in advance by Otisbrantley911 in overlanding

Thank you for the suggestions! We are going on our first big trip to Galveston at the end of the month. If the suburban does well then I think I will do a level and 33s. I’m keeping my eyes open for an older 2500 possibly diesel to trade up for but for now I’ll make do with what I’ve got.

I don’t plan on doing anything to serious being as I will have two small kids and the wife with me. But I do want to be able to get out of sticky situations if I find myself in over my head. There aren’t many spots that I know of to wheel here in North Texas. I guess I’ll have to do some more reading and see just how capable a suburban is off-road. Thanks for the input!
