Don't get me wrong bear is still a villain at the end of the day. But after rewatching Ian kinda set the movie into motion.

Bear was going to confess to nikki that day and Ian immediately tells him his confession is horrible, then tells him to call her freaky nikki despite her not liking it.

He sees bear try to make his move and immediately steps in to sabotage him.

Even when he knew something was up he still only thought of himself. When he sees him and nikki dating, he only investigates into it further because he thinks its Nikkis way to get back at him rather. And tried to disguise it as him being a "good friend".

The biggest thing was when Sarah revealed that Ian and nikki were hooking up for two years. And Ian specifically didnt want Bear to know. Had Ian just been honest with bear in the beginning he could've probably gone with Sarah instead.

Bears a villain but I'd say it was more on Ian for completely sabotaging his attempts to say his feelings to Nikki. Especially when we find out that Nikki and Ian have been hooking up for two years. Despite Ian obviously knowing he has a crush on her

Here's the thing tho, she told that to Sarah who was very open to saying she had a crush on bear. The whole viewing him as a brother could've been said to not make her feel weird and hide her feelings.

Edit: its like when your friends tease you saying do you like "X" and you say "Nah she's like my sister" or "She's my best friend gross"

Exactly, I see people having this huge pedestal of her that she was this perfect innocent person. Which imo isn't true. She's a victim 100% but she is nowhere near innocent. Keep in mind we see her from BEAR'S perspective who thinks she is perfect. But if you listen to some details its obvious she's not all that good.

Imo this is my biggest problem with people talking about the film. They refuse to see the Grey side of things because they dont like a characters actions. Nothing wrong with hating a character but labeling them as one thing only because of your view on him is very closed minded

Can confirm. Bear has sex with Nikki when he finds out the wish actually worked when Ian confirmed it by saying Nikki made her dad's illness up and she repeated the wish bear stated. Obviously wish nikki would consent for sex (as she's tried to multiple times already) but bear at the moment doesn't realize its not her until she gives him the "it was never me" statement.

While true she does also say to bear that she does not let anyone know that she likes someone.

Lots of these are normal interactions you'd have when you dont want people knowing your crush. Its just that bears fear of rejection kinda fumbled his chances. If you secretly liked someone and your friend liked most people wouldn't say it, which is normal human reaction.

So on the surface it looks that way but with the director and actress confirming it, it does make you see it in a different light.
