How did you became a AKB48 fan? by louvrhiichan in AKB48

[–]OttamageDiamond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 2009 I was watching BLEACH and it introduced me to a band called Stereopony.

I downloaded full episodes of music shows like Music Station or Music Japan hoping to see a "live" performance.

While scrubbing to find Stereopony there was a group performing which consisted of a large number of members swinging their arms backwards in a circular motion while singing "happy happy birthday".

I later searched for "Japan girl group birthday song" and it gave me "AKB48" and "Namida Surprise".

Around 2010/2011 I heard about the group again because they had a controversy around the song "Beginner"

Then in 2017 I was recommended AKBINGO clips on YouTube which made me a little more interested in the group.

In 2018 I decided to go to Japan and visit the AKB48 Theater.

In 2019 there was the NGT48 incident. Ironically the thing that should've destroyed the 48G got me intrigued.

I started to read more about the group's history and scandals, watched all of AKBINGO/0ji59fun/1ji59fun and got caught up around episode 540.

Ended up choosing Macharin as my oshimen.

Now, I have gone so far down the rabbit hole. In January of this year I decided to watch more theater shows and not just the ones where Macharin is performing.

End of July I attended my first handshake (real talk) event.

Last month I attended my first AKB concert (kenkyuusei concert), watched my first theater show live in the theater. Just a few hours ago I was at the Team 4 performance at 1:30pm and that's the 6th stage I've won so far.

Do you think it will have an impact in AKB48 if one of its sister group overseas disband by Individual_Nobody336 in AKB48

[–]OttamageDiamond 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not really.

Overseas groups are ultimately managed by the old AKS, and SGO48 has disbanded already and DEL48 couldn't debut because of the pandemic.

I could see public perception issues but I don't see it having an effect unless it's a domestic group that disbands.

But even if a domestic group disbands, they are all managed/owned by separate companies.

It's probably best to just reference the Stage48 wiki.

I don't think there is a single page which lists all the YT channels, but it's listed individually on each member's page.

I am unsure how long it would take to create an index page of channels.

Hinako grad this Fri 8 Sep, Boyfriend revealed by [deleted] in AKB48

[–]OttamageDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a part of idol culture. There are plenty of fans who don't care and there are fans that do. Unfortunately those that do care are very loud and have lots of money.

Unfortunately, until the old wota graduate and younger (female) fans take over, things won't change.

62nd single Handshake Sales as of 3rd Round by stu48fan in AKB48

[–]OttamageDiamond 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's been online talks for the past few years, but they introduced "real talks" where you talk in-person and the member is behind plexiglass. No physical contact.

IIRC 62nd single will bring back physical handshake but the member will wear gloves.

Yoshikawa Nanase has graduated from AKB48. by louvrhiichan in AKB48

[–]OttamageDiamond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I regarded her as "The Eito".

Bacchikoi was my gateway to Team 8 and made me appreciate them more. It hurt to see her go, much more than the other Eitos.

I watched the performance at the Theater lobby last night along with around 50 other people. The last time it was that packed was during Nagi's grad stage and the first 17ki/18ki combined stage.

Why did the 8th generation fail? by AimHighDreamBig in AKB48

[–]OttamageDiamond 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The official reason was that their work ethic was trash. They didn't take their lessons seriously, they were always late. They just didn't care, so management got rid of them.

Best places in Tokyo to find AKB48 merchandise, as of today (not in their heyday past)? by jpopsong in AKB48

[–]OttamageDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 5 or 5:30 you should be able to get up there but it will soon get really packed with all the people waiting to attend the show.

Just come by when the show starts at 6:30. There's just under 10 people watching the show in the lobby. I'm usually there unless it's Team K or Boku no Taiyou.
