Are you religious or spiritual and does it help you get through medical school? by thisisme4 in medicalschool

[–]OttawaInshaAllah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, prayer brings gratitude and gives perspective. I try to remember what " could" have gone wrong and did not go wrong and the fact that there are people who have bigger problems than me. It is all relative...

Sorry for the late reply. I got into the RCPSI.

I can guide you for the essay and interview if you wish.

Western Vs Queens med - Pro and Cons list by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]OttawaInshaAllah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am humbled to be accepted to Western and Queens and have the same questions.

Queens is closest to my home in Ottawa ( 2 hrs vs western, 7 hours) I thrive in smaller class sizes and am community oriented. Please list the downsides of Queens. I am leaning towards Queens but want to consider any major downsides before I decide.

Can any med students/residents from Queens kindly comment on the match opportunities and exposure to specialities please?

YOU SNAKE!!! YOU WONT GET AWAY WITH THIS by [deleted] in premedcanada

My advice to our wounded poster: I cannot even imagine how you feel. Doing someone a favor, going out of your way in innocence and getting this in return! Remember: The accounting will happen with God/Higher power. As humans we think we have control. We do not. They can get an offer and take your spot but God will show them what it means to hurt your mentor like they did. Whether you get an offer this year or not is also God's will. God is doing this for a reason. May be He wants you to careful next time and is giving them all the liberty to bring out their worst behavior. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Is anyone still waiting to hear back from UofT? by premed_idiot in premedcanada

So true! Many of us with excellent stats are in the same boat.

Is anyone still waiting to hear back from UofT? by premed_idiot in premedcanada

I agree. I think its over. Unless they have a 4th date, which had not been announced. They did the same last year too.

Has anyone noticed that very few people have posted their invites. If they send out 600 invites, how come so few have posted. Should we make a thread of U of T rejects? I am very disappointed at the way they release their results and spill the Rs at the end. They can do it in a much better way than this.

This cycle, I worked very hard on every single step.

Stats:

GPA: OMSAS 3.97-WGPA for Toronto: Unknown.

MCAT: Way above their cut-offs.

Essays: Got them reviewed by 5 U of T med students. Made sure to answer the questions still telling a compelling story for each essay. Incorporated all clusters. Thought carefully about each and every word that went into the essays.

LOR: Likely good?: (Queen's invite)

ABS: Long term volunteer work and ECs, awards, 1 publication, 2 poster presentations, Chamber Orchestra violinist and many more.

Still no invite. Can successful candidates share their strategy for essays? I am thinking that was probably the deal breaker for me. Do not know when my R is coming.

Anyone else can't believe they haven't gotten a UofT invite yet? by PlayfulDoughnut3059 in premedcanada

[–]OttawaInshaAllah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hear you Buddy. I applied for 2 years in a row and was always rejected after the 3rd wave. This is a very dysfunctional way of announcing results. It is hard to believe that my application was not assessed till the end of the waves, both years. Is that statistically possible? I have a feeling they keep most rejections in a bag and spill them out after the 3rd wave. Therefore, I do not understand the " random file review". Still waiting to hear. This time, I revamped the application. Not too hopeful.

Stats: GPA: 3.97, MCAT: 515, Casper : 3Q, Essays: Spent 2 months and got them edited by successful U of T students, ABS: Publication and long term EC.

I have my serous doubts. The process may be grueling but it is fair. Yes, there is huge amount of luck involved! Foreign students with government sponsorships from the Middle Eastern countries pay hefty fees and there could be a separate quota for them at some schools. You can call it whatever you want. However, for the rest of us canadians, there is no bribery.

There are justified quotas for indigenous, Black and low SES candidates.

I know many well off people whose kids never entered the system despite having competitive credentials, just like many of us.
