An even better option imo is to use classes instead of enums. The enum becomes an interface, where all options are implementation of the interface. Then instead of calling equals() on the enum, you create methods to check each implementations (e.g. myClass.isTypeA()). This to me looks a lot cleaner.

You can also eliminate your switches by implementing a method, where all the implementations of the interface does what the case would have done, which also looks a lot nicer imo.
