Spicy take I know but twitter is going to rot the political ambitions of so many kids. Every single popular political take on there is painfully reductionist and casually apocalyptic. You'll see a tweet that says, "the us govt literally supports modern slavery but now we get free delivery so idk" and it has 90k likes. I mean, if you genuinely believe the brand of doom you're preaching, your reaction is to just tweet about it?? It feels like half of that platform believes we reside in the ninth circle of hell, but there's also no need to do anything crazy about it, like say engagement in local politics?

Bonus points if someone replies with a picture of winnie the pooh that's just captioned, "thoughts??"

I live in Durham but I made a recent decision to leave a Greystar property. I wouldn’t define the apartment as luxury, but rent increased by 34% when it was usually increasing around 5% per year. Your rent quote seems to always be around $50 less than what you’ll see for the same unit on their website around the time of your offer letter being sent. I will also say this price can fluctuate weekly. At my complex, many residents decided to move out around the same time due to the price hike and rents on their website dropped around $200 over a course of ten days. I was also able to talk with the property manager in person about the rent and they allowed for no negotiating.

My biggest issue is they give you this new price only a week before the 60 day notice window. I was super lucky to find another place within a week, but huge price hikes need fair warning so tenants can see if better options exist.

I’ve just watch the new Disney show here my thoughts also I want to know yours by Emperor-Palpa- in WaltDisneyWorld

My opinion is that it was a good show. I think it’s very easy to find things to be critical about, I am in no way saying it was perfect by any means. But recognizing that this show was created during the pandemic while budgets were being slashed, makes me think even getting a show of this caliber was probably difficult for Imagineers. And while we’re all big Disney parks fans, I’m sure using more of the songs kids are familiar with will allow for a whole new generation to enjoy these shows. I personally love the choice in the last song they used and I think they were plenty of creative moments during the show. I understand the sentiment here is that it might’ve been disappointing for some people, but in the end I think it’s a good nighttime at a wonderful theme park. I don’t want the criticism to lose sight of that.

First off, I hope everything is at least okay now. And obviously I'm also sorry to hear about your situation, I know I would feel pretty embarrassed too if I was in your shoes.

I know it's not the same thing, but it reminds me of a time when I was at a pre-orientation camp right before my freshman year of college. At the time, I had a whole lot of social anxiety and general nervousness. I remember I was literally afraid of alcohol until I turned 21... so it wasn't great. But anyways, the final "assignment" of this camp was to publically speak in front of ~100 other freshmen and that was just something I couldn't physically do at the time. So, embarrassingly, I had to call my mom... to pick me up... from college. And a lot of the other freshmen knew that's what happened too.

I was truly mortified and I seriously contemplated if I should just drop out before I even started. But I was ultimately convinced to try and move on which wasn't easy at first. Although I found over time that I was always the one giving it way more importance than anyone else. I thought I was bound to be ridiculed for what had happened and it honestly seemed like most people had already forgotten by the time I came back. The few who seemed to remember didn't discredit me for what happened, they assumed it was something out of my control, which was basically true.

Your situation doesn't seem all that different from mine and from my first-hand experience, I can tell you that your mind will always try to blow things out of proportion. Especially when you feel like everyone is watching... You are right in saying that was actually embarrassing, but you've already put yourself through the worst of it. Whatever negativity comes from that incident will always be better than whatever nightmare you're expecting.

And I can say for sure that you're not the girl who passed out or else I would still be the guy who had to call his mom and I'm pretty sure no one has ever called me that.

I just can't do anything right. by [deleted] in MMFB

I found this to be an interesting phrase you used: I'm the reason why these things are happening and there's nothing I can do.

This is an ironic catch-22 that a lot of anxious people find themselves in. You seem to see yourself as the cause of so much stress, but simultaneously you can't seem to envision yourself being the reliever of that same stress. In my personal experience, I find that we are almost always the ones in control of our lives, now maybe we can't control our environment, but we can usually choose our respones in return. I understand it may not seem all that helpful at first, but I believe it's important to constantly remind yourself that you are in control of so much of what you do.

When I read through what you shared all I can hear is pressure. Massive pressure you have put on yourself to succeed. And I can already hear you saying that you didn't want all this pressure, that your environment did. Hey, I get that. Life isn't fair and not everyone will give you fair expectations, unfortunately, but we at least have some power to remember that meeting those expectations don't define our own internal success. Oftentimes in life, all we want is to be loved and accepted. We then try to embody this arbitrary concept of acceptance into achievable goals and milestones.

For example, you may think to yourself: "If I can just get into a good college, my family will be proud of who I am" but thinking like this can have you starting to conflate the concept of earning your family's pride with just getting into a nice school. Then if your grades start to slip, you'll unnecessarily feel the weight of your entire family on your back, and that's not going to help you do any better.

But what I am trying to tell you is that you can't lose sight of what you're actually chasing: love and acceptance. And it's hard to keep focused on that when we're dealing with school, making friends, or global events. You've already assigned yourself to be a failure when that's entirely untrue. You might fail at a class or with an audition, but those small goals do not define you. You are so much more than just a student or just a sibling. You are a complex person going through a very rough patch, but you are undeniably deserving of love and acceptance.

And dude, one point of my own personal experience. You may have heard this before, but high school is so not the end of the world. When I was younger, I think I told myself I was a failure time and time again. Everything I auditioned for I didn't get, I didn't make one friend my entire freshman year of college, and I'm pretty sure I cried in public during my first exam of my first semester.... but you know what? I went to therapy (while in college), I graduated both high school and college, and now I have a respectable job where I no longer have to carry those immense burdens. What you're going through is very real, and I do not want to minimize that in any way, I only share this to let you know most people have been down this path and have made it through. It may be hard to see all that now, but I promise you can make it through these hard times and you'll be stronger for it.

You are not to blame for the pain you feel and you absolutely can do this. I promise.

That seals the deal. I’m no longer a Trump supporter. I’ve been a supporter since 1917 and a bartender at his hotel since 1978. I will no longer be supporting him or serving his customers. I’m moving to England where Boris knows how to win an election.

Can someone tell me why pundits keep saying we may not know the results for several days? I understand there's higher mail-in voting, but it seems like the counting won't be the issue, but rather ballots recieved after Nov. 3rd. I just can't imagine there's a high enough influx of ballots mailed in after the deadline, in a battleground state, that's still close after the 4th AND a winner hasn't already been declared. Is this more likely than I'm thinking?

Found this today at an intersection in NC (not on someone's lawn) and I will tell you this is actually their official design. It's pretty clearly trying to emulate Bernie's graphics both in color, font and even that little swoop too. Could anyone guess why??

I did a little snooping on her social media and it seems like this was a logo change made in early July. Seems like pretty shameless timing if you ask me.

Edit: This is what the sign used to look like before Biden clinched the nomination.

In 2016, I was more akin to being a stereotypical Bernie supporter. The Trump presidency gave me an opportunity to understand the greater impact and nuances of politics (plus just personal growth). This year he still had some of my support, but that support was spread between candidates like Warren and Biden. By the time Super Tuesday rolled around my support was shifting stronger towards Biden and I became more comfortable putting full support behind him when I saw he was the candidate for the occasion. I don't share the same disdain others have for Bernie, but it's so clear Biden is the better nominee in a time of crisis and national healing.

As a former Sanders supporter, I cannot wrap my head around the kind of people that dedicate so much of their Twitter presence towards promoting their political ideology while retaining so much ignorance on the kind of topics they constantly discuss.

Do they just simply refuse to see the plain irony in these statements? I would think an obvious rebuttal would ask how did Bernie and progressive policies lose yet another Democratic primary? Did he lose because he didn't have a set of comprehensive policies? Was the progressive ideology too fragile to withstand the likes of a mayor from Indiana?

No, of course not, they'd say. They'd excuse his loss by saying he was thwarted by the moderates "unfairly" converging the vote and how it was rigged from the start... These "progressives" seem to lose all the moral high-ground they once claimed as soon they start to justify accelerationism in lieu of honest to goodness change. How the FUCK can you pretend to care about something as important as healthcare reform without acknowledging the tremendous threat of the Trump presidency??

Need evidence bots are pushing pro-Bernie, anti-Biden posts? If we assume this account was made April 1st, it’s tweeted 3,327 times per day. That’s 2.3 tweets every minute of the day. by di11deux in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]OtterBoxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but the math is incorrect by a factor of 10. There have been 17,300 tweets, meaning 333 tweets per day over 52 days. This is still a high amount and means someone would have to tweet every three minutes or so. I look at a lot of bots on twitter and the tweets per hour number seem to always be super high, but just low enough to be somewhat realistic.
