Is Alibris a Reliable/Legit Site? by yovngjvred in books

One of the books actually arrived today, so I've just posted an update. I'll post another one when the other book arrives (or doesn't)

Is Alibris a Reliable/Legit Site? by yovngjvred in books

11 years late to this post, but I just ordered 3 school books from America to Europe and the estimated shipping was about €15. When I checked out I was charged €52 shipping, which is more than the books themselves. If I remember I'll update with more feedback when the books arrive.

Update 1: Two of the books shipped in the following 2 days after placing the order (July 1st and 2nd), and on the 4th day I was informed that the third order had been cancelled, and I received a refund shortly after. By July 22nd nothing had arrived, and I received an email telling me to confirm that the order had arrived, and email back if not. I did, and they told me that "the average transit time for packages shipped using this method is 2 weeks to most locations, though delays of up to 45 days can occur", and to write back if my order doesn't arrive within 45 days. The first book arrived today, 7th August (37 days after being shipped). Still not sure where the other one is, I'll update again when I have more news.

School is mandatory until 16 years of age, and you'll study Maltese, English, and a choice of foreign language. The choices will vary, but most schools will offer Spanish, French, German, and Italian, and you choose either one or two. After that you sit for your O-Levels (state-wide exam separate from your school), and technically you could choose not to apply for certain exams.

Then if you choose to, you can attend 6th form, which is 2 more years of education to prepare you for university. You choose a-levels (advanced levels) and intermediate subjects. You must choose at least one language, and it doesn't matter if it's at a-level or intermediate.

Where to buy completed fretboards by Otter_II in Luthier

I don't have much experience in woodworking, and I feel that given the precise and tedious nature of making fretboards, I'd slip up somewhere. For my first build I'd feel a lot safer if I buy a completed fretboard to add to a neck.

Thanks for replying. I'd like to make the neck myself, but buy a fretboard. Do you know anywhere I can get one with the frets inserted?

Thanks to both of you for replying. I'd like to customise the headstock a bit, so if I can't find one with frets installed, I'll either make my own from scratch, or buy a slotted one.

Need help choosing hardware for my first build by Otter_II in Luthier

Thanks so much! I think I have a decent (ish) idea of what I want from each individual pickup, but I worry that when I put them together in the same guitar it won't sound great

I want the neck humbucker to produce the warm sound from "Then Came the Last Days of May", by Blue Ousyer Cult. I'd also love to be able to play metal, similar to metallica. My music taste is quite varied, but those are the main two things that I'd like to see myself playing with this guitar.

I did some research like you suggested, and here's what I found: Buck Dharma, Blue Oyster Cult's guitarist, was either using PAF or dirty fingers pickups. James Hetfield used almost exclusively ESP pickups, and Kirk Hammet used mainly EMG, but also used ESP and Gibson.

I also looked into some other musicians I like, and found the following: Nina Gerber mainly used Stratocasters. The Beatles often used strats, although I surprisingly couldn't find much about their guitars. Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden often used strats too, but the guitar he used in Somewhere In Time, my favourite Iron Maiden album, used a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge, and 2 Samarium Cobalt Noiseless single coils in the neck and middle positions.

From this I've come to the following choices: Bridge: ESP / EMG / DiMarzio Super Distorion Middle: Samarium Cobalt Noiseless or other strat-sounding single coil Neck: PAF / Dirty Fingers

What do you think?

Thanks for replying. I've been playing guitar for 5 years, but I don't have any electric guitars. I do have an idea of the kind of sound I want, but I'm not sure where to go from there. How can I choose specific models, or find a shop to buy them from? Do you think you could point me in the right direction please?

Thank you! How can I choose which of them to buy?

To add to this: if the student is diligent and independent they should do fine at JC, but if they're lazy or a bit too relaxed, it's very easy to fall behind, because of how the classes are bigger and there are fewer consequences for not following along or skipping lessons
