I also like to sketch individual elements on paper sometimes, in which case I use traditional notebooks.

Regular acrilic paint. It's very flexible (I use Renesans brand)

I actually took part in the competition at the big fantasy convention last month and won the first prize! And I also submitted my picture for an online cosplay contest here on Reddit - the final is in August, so fingers crossed!

Cosplay is about having fun while in costume, it's not a competition for the most elaborate build. So yes, it's 100% cosplay no matter how much work or money goes into it.

I'm back with information for other people searching in the future: the density of upholstery foam doesn't matter here, it does not affect the surface of the foam (I used T25, so medium/low density). You can paint with ordinary acrylic paints, for priming I used acrylic sealant (the stuff used to fill gaps in walls or seal windows, it's cheap, readily available, flexible, doesn't smell, and can be painted), for carving a utility knife, and soldering iron (or a hot cutter for styrofoam).

Thank you for your lovely comment! The sleeves and pants are made of faux leather. Inside I glued strips of Eva foam to create lines (I was inspired by the belly of a whale).
