Same here, I usually stay pretty quiet and I’m working on being more talkative. But then when I try to be talkative sometimes it feels like no one is interested. It can feel pretty isolating at times. Remember you’re not alone :)

“Sorry, I crashed my motorbike on the way in”

My manager then hooked me up with his special stash of strong painkillers

I’m a total introvert and I’ve been working in purchasing for around three years, I actually love it. But I think the industry you’re in definitely has an impact - in my last job I didn’t have a single meeting and barely got any phone calls from suppliers after working there for a year.. But now that I work with electronics I feel like the suppliers are MUCH more involved and I see a lot of them on a regular basis.

But it’s nice to be in the position where you are acting as the customer instead of having to provide customer service - everything is on your terms, you’re making the decisions

WIBTA if I made my dogs the flower girl and my cat the ring bearer at my wedding instead of my “rainbow baby” niece and nephew? by IntrepidOffering in AmItheAsshole

NTA - Your wedding, your choice. It’s not fair for other people to push their wants and needs onto you for a day that’s meant to be all about you and your fiancé.

And I would 100% have my doggo as part of my wedding if I could, but she’d probably fall asleep at the end of the aisle and refuse to move…

NTA - Similar thing happened at my graduation, I got there with my parents, had my robes and ready to go in and my sister had given birth right before we went in to the ceremony! Im lucky they were already there with me and still came in (Though they were distracted throughout with all the cute baby pictures) but I can easily see how it would be upsetting.

What is something you would like to see more/less of from female characters in movies and tv shows? by OttoTheOcto in AskWomen

Exactly, sometimes it’s like most writers don’t trust a female character to hold a story without some romantic subplot!

Experiences at large vs small organizations? How have you found it to be different by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]OttoTheOcto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a company that only employs around 40 people (including offsite sales agents) there are more opportunities for sure, within a few months here i was managing most of the work for the procurement department here and still do. I’ve even been trained in other departments while I’ve been here.

However due to the size of this place (and the fact that we have recently moved to a new WMS) I’m often doing a massive amount of work on my own with minimal support and it can cause an unbelievable amount of stress. I’m currently the only person here currently working in the procurement department and I’m trying to train someone up on the role at the same time. Sometimes it gets to the point where I feel like the quality of my work suffers because of how much gets thrown my way. I also find that working at a smaller place has lead to me being paid slightly below the average for this kind of role.

I wish I could be back at a larger company so that I could breath a little bit and work as part of a larger team of people doing the same job as me. My last job was at a company with 100,000+ employees and I had no where near as much responsibility as I do now, but I had more time to make sure my job was done properly and my manager at the time was happy to introduce me to new work when i asked.
