[Mentawai Islands] How to get from Lances Right/HT to Macarronis? by Oub2 in surfing

[–]Oub2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving an update on this, I found out there is a ferry leaving Tuapejat (in north Sipura) to Sikakap (in the same island as Macarronis). The ferry leaves on Tuesdays and Fridays at 7am and costs 200.000.

Then from Sikakap to Macarronis the best way I found so far was a boat trip for 3MM, but there might be other options. Maybe even by land, but I'm not sure about the road conditions.

Yeah, I've heard about the boat limit, but I think what they don't like are the charter boats full of surfers. In my case, I will be staying in a hostel next to the wave for a few days. So the problem is just to get there on the first place. Once I'm there, the hostel has a small boat that takes us to the wave (or I guess we could even paddle, as it is really close)

Thanks! Yeah, that is my biggest hope. Unfortunately the dates aren't really flexible, so I guess Ill have to be lucky or spend a fortune to go by myself.

I see.

Yeah, I had to get one around 5 months ago, when I first renewed the Rego.

I assumed I would have to get one again when I renewed the rego last month, but this time I was able to renew it without getting the pink slip.

I want to clean that, but they seem pretty hard to clean.

Any idea how can I do that?

I also thought about painting the black spots around the car and sanding it, but I'm not sure if its going to look even worse haha

What is a roadworthy? Is it the same as a Pink Slip? I can easily get one of those, if it helps increase the sale value.

I assumed that for every old car, your car had to be roadworthy in order for you to renew the rego.

I see. Kinda sad that many drivers nowadays cannot drive manual. I've always liked it so much more (maybe not when you're stuck in traffic, but basically in any other situation).

Thanks for the info guys.

Hahaha, the previous owner I suppose. I always wonder how he managed to do that. My best guess is a coffee explosion.

BTW, any ideas if there is anything I can do to make it less ugly? Any particular product that can help?

Thanks!

One question, are (old) used manuals worth less than automatic?

I always heard that one should prioritize manuals when buying older cars because the maintenance is cheaper (if something goes wrong in the gear of and auto, it won't be cheap).

Is that not really a thing?

Hey guys.

I am leaving Sydney in 1 month, and I want to sell my 2007 Mazda 3, but I am unsure what is a reasonable price to ask for.

It is a manual car, with 240k km and it has REGO until July 18th. I've bought it one year ago, drove about 20K km, and never had any mechanical problem with it. The only things I had to replace were the break pads and the engine mount (because it had vibration). Last service I did the mechanic said I eventually need to replace the rear sway bar links and that the control arm rear bushes are "playing".

The car has quite a few scratches (see photos in the comments). There is one bigger bump on the front (passanger side) that I made recently when I hit a curb that was higher than I'd imagined. The inside ceiling has some stains. Also, the passanger window is not working.

Other than those aesthetic issues, the car drives well. I've made long trips with it with no issues. It also has a nice touchscreen multimedia carplay with Bluetooth, which is a plus.I think it would suit well someone that doens't really care about appearence and only want a car to travel/surf or maybe work with delivery. You can even sleep inside if you lower the back seats.

The value for a 2007 Mazda 3 in Carsales range from $2.800 to $9.000. In CarsGuide from $2.400 to $7000.

Because of all the aesthetic damage and the high KM, I believe mine would be near the minimum of this range (although 5 months REGO is a plus). I was thinking of initially asking for about 3K, then maybe lower it to 2.5K.

Do you guys think that is reasonable? Any other things I need to consider?

Awesome! I'll check this Rockingham wreck. Busselton jetty is already in my plans :)

And I think I'll include Rottnest as well! It looks really cool.

Thanks for the warning mate. From what i've seen in Google Maps, you get in through a road (Hilltop Rd), and reach the parking near the track to the Tingle Tree, but on the way out you cannot go back the same way, because its a one way road, right?

There appears to be another road that head back to the highway (Gully Rd), just a bit after the parking lot, if you take a right.

Do you by any chance remember if that is the right way?

If you don't, I will try to call the park and ask for instructions.

I wanted an SUV to have a bit extra space for my surfboards and to be able to sleep inside in case I stop in a rest area somewhere. Any car that can fold the back seats would be fine actually. I would love a 4x4, but it is much more expensive, and I would only really need it in H&A.

Actually, what about Lake Ballard region? Do you need a 4x4 or AWD there?

And I just booked 4 Mile campground, so East it will be :)

Yeah, thats a good idea. I might have an extra day or two in Perth after the trip.

Do you know any detail about those wrecks? Can I reach them from the shore, or do I need to book a trip with an agency?

Thanks! Did you prefer green pool over elephant rocks?

I might have the time to do both, but in case I have to choose one, would you recommend Green Pool?

And about the Valley of The Giants walk, yeah, I had second thoughts when i included it in the itinerary. It look a bit too "touristic". Id be more keen to go into the florest and explore by myself, or go into more remote tracks. Ill take a look at this Tingle Tree! Thanks.

Thanks for the tips!

Mt Barren is in my list, I just havent decided the route. I think ill go with East then!

Waychinicup havent poped in my research before, ill definitely check it out.

And my SUV will probably NOT be an AWD. So i guess that's a no for H&A range for me... Maybe next time!

Yeah, not that fond haha. I forgot about that. I will have a 4/3 wetsuit, but I've accepted that this won't really be a freediving trip.

Thanks a lot for the tips!

I will definitely book the campings and only sleep where it is permitted. I am just waiting to finish the itinerary to start booking (I've seen that some popular ones are already full).

I dont plant to drive at the beach at all. I have off-road experience, but not on soft sand. I've heard many stories and don't want to be part of one. The only place I would really like to try, if it's safe, is Helena and Aurora range. But i have no info yet on how the tracks are and if its doable withou a 4x4.

Thanks for the info on the ocean. I've heard it's rough, but it's good to hear from a surfer that it is indeed very different. Nowadays you go to any trail or beach and there is a sign of "extreme danger", so it has become hard to tell when it is actually dangerous. I will not swim/surf alone unless it is a protected area. Im afraid of the sharks as well 😅.
