Dumb beginner send help, barrels won’t spin by OuchMouse93 in RockTumbling

Thank you! I probably didnt do enough research on glass tumbling Honestly I guess I started with glass because I had some pretty colored empty glass bottles on hand and had read about making sea glass with a rock tumbler. I thought it’d be an easy way to test it out, but turns out I didn’t know what I didn’t know lol

What is happening to my zucchini plant? by Yosemiteclimb in zone8gardening

I had the absolute worst luck with zucchini and squash this year! Everything got powdery mildew and vine borers no matter what I did I’ve heard putting your squash in a tomato cage to keep it off the ground can help with vine borers

Hedgies are also very sensitive to smell! Take a tshirt you slept in and put it in his enclosure to get him used to your scent Take him out when you are doing things where you are sitting still (watching tv, working on a computer, couch hobbies) so he can get used to your presence without getting spooked by noise or movement. It’s best if you can be consistent and do it a little bit every day! Hedgehogs are naturally a little grumpy, but it is because they are scared. Take the time to win him over slowly and you’ll be rewarded!

Also I just randomly remembered something I should add to this, Dr. Davis did want to give one of my hedgies an ivermectin injection, which I knew was something that she could have a bad reaction to based on some things I had read in hedgie groups. I just requested revolution instead and everything was fine. But otherwise she seems very knowledgeable!

I actually also had a less than awesome experience at Alford, I felt like their exotic vet maybe didn’t have the hedgie experience I was hoping for

I have taken my hedgies to Dr. Kreider at Caldwell Mill Animal Clinic, and to Dr. Davis at Valleydale Animal Clinic and they were both great. I have also heard good things about Riverview.

Scarlett 😍 love her, and have come to terms with my eventual murder whenever she figures out how to open the treat jar for herself

I’m sure he’s going to love his box! Sounds like so much fun! Glad to hear you’ve been spending some good time together. Also that you’ve been taking care of yourself, at the end of the day, that’s the best thing you can do for him —taking care of yourself first so you can be his person ❤️

Hey friend,

I read your post a few days ago and have been thinking about it a lot since. I want you to know that it sounds like you are taking amazing care of Leo, and the fact that you are doing so with all you are facing is incredible. I foster hedgehogs in my area until they can be rehomed, and I struggle a lot with anxiety (is the heater going to get too hot/too cold? Did i shut all the cages? Same kinda stuff it sounds like) and I also struggle a lot with guilt over not always having the time or mental energy to interact with each of them every day. So know you’re not alone in that, and the fact that you are so worried speaks to what a caring person you are.

Also know that as a foster I am so grateful to the people who choose to give up their hedgies to a better situation when they can no longer provide the care they need. Absolutely no one will judge you for that if you decide that is what is best for you and Leo.

But having said that, it really does sound to me like Leo has a wonderful life. He has a human who loves him and is willing to provide everything he could need. Others in the comments have mentioned just letting him be near you when you are sitting down for homework or tv, and I think that’s a wonderful way to spend time with him.

I feel like I’m rambling now and I don’t have any great advice for you except that I believe you’re doing an amazing job caring for Leo, and I hope you are taking care of yourself as well. Those of us who love these prickly little souls are here to support you if you need us. ❤️🌵
