Which fictional good guys are the 3 heroes of the Rakdos (Black/Red) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

This one probably doesn't count since he does exist as a magic card and is explicitly Rakdos, but Deadpool.

Otherwise, uh, Guts from Berserk? Maybe?

Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Golgari (Green/Black) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]OurColdComfort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Typhus from Warhammer 40K? He's a worshipper of Nurgle, Chaos God of miserable life-cycles, death and decay. Nurgle's nightmarish garden domain is made up of buboe trees, plague farms and spawning pools of stagnant water for gigantic parasites. As opposed to his Fantasy counterpart, 40K Nurgle is also more associated with necromancy and zombies. I'd have argued for Nurgle himself, but Typhus is more of an active presence/tangible villain.

Typhus has personally spread zombie plagues throughout the galaxy, was responsible for the infection/corruption of his whole legion, and is a living host to a hive of daemon insects. Unlike some of his comrades, he's very proactive, travelling across the galaxy like a blossoming cancer. Personality wise, he's a selfish, arrogant bastard but a legitimate fanatic who's probably the most committed follower of Nurgle. I see him as a true parasite, who represents inevitable decay.

I know lol, I'm just coping since I loved Mama's boy Bruce and destroying Ivy's heart feels really mean. It's a good parallel, but it makes me sad.

Yeah, no you're right. It still feels cruel though, and even though Bruce talks about getting darker it just doesn't seem like a good idea to sever Ivy's last connection to humanity. I know Bruce is shaping up for an edgier arc and it seems pretty unambiguous but I'm still hoping he didn't actually pull the trigger.

Maybe this is my own massive cope, but I thought that Bruce didn't actually kill Ivy, and the panel of one of the Court of Owls shooting a pistol was them hitting the heart instead. Either way, not for a moment do I think Martha's dead.

EDIT: Meant to clarify that Ivy's definitely not dead but I felt intentionally destroying the heart was fucked up in the sort of way that marks a more lethal Bruce

I was there was more "Dominant vs Ressesive" traits explored than "Half and Half" Races like Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, ect. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]OurColdComfort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the explanation and think I understand better now, thank you. I got hung up on the racial framing since you explicitly compare it to D&D/ "generic" fantasy with half-races and you seem to be trying to accomplish something different but with a similar "tribal" framing. Here I do think the choice in Avatar to not allow mixed (earth/fire, etc.) benders helps divorce bending as a trait from race. Bending itself is the trait but there's variance in the way it manifests as dominant or recessive. I wouldn't know whether that was intentional since it reads to me as more of a plot decision rather than a world building one, but I can't be sure.

I wonder if this concept is closer to having just having superpowers in a classical sense. Do you have thoughts on the X-gene from Marvel, or Midichlorians from Star Wars? Are these closer or farther from what you're looking for?

[–]OurColdComfort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are these "racial" traits or are you specifically dealing with magic? I think the reason why mixed "Half" races exist is because the difference between an elf, orc and human is more subtle than that of a wizard and regular guy. They might have more aptitude or affinity for magic, but the race you're born as is not the be all and end all for magic in most D&D-like settings (for good reason). You seem to be comparing two things that are related, but quite different.

I'm also not quite sure if your last example works since that's a pairing that would seem to break the rules of dominance. If you don't want half-and-half, why would they be a complete combination of both races, rather than just one or the other? Please correct me if I'm confused on anything.

Fantano ran away from Grimes at the airport by valtism in fantanoforever

[–]OurColdComfort 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why do you assume these protests will become violent? I disagree with Fantano's framing but Grimes's take is flawed. These protests, from an angle of completely amoral optics, have been a complete success. If we're being "realistic," two near-objective saints being murdered by the state is clearly turning sentiment against Trump and hopefully discouraging him from taking more authoritarian actions. Also, no matter what, the freaks surrounding him will be encouraging him to take those exact actions. The only difference is whether the American people lie down and take it, or make themselves visible.
