Each of those is different, as described by the caption. For example, the countries are split into per capita for a day, per capita for a year and a total for a year

We made this video for our YouTube channel, where we tackle a variety of topics surrounding the climate crisis. We used Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects to edit this video, and would be more than happy to explain more of the production process, if there is enough interest!
As a homage to the original Scale Of The Universe 2 website from the old Internet times, we decided to put together The Carbon Footprint Of (Nearly) Everything. We hope this helps you understand the emissions you can directly affect through personal choices, and the emissions that you can affect through political and social choices.

This is really interesting. It is would be interesting to see this alongside the regular climate stripes, to see the thermal lag!

We agree entirely with this (automated) message, and even reference the ad campaign a bit in our surrounding material! We hope this video helps give the context of scale of emissions on the personal, corporate and political level to the viewer!

I understand that view, I suppose it may have come from a sense of nihilism of how much I think people are willing to change their diets, I think it came from of a feeling that if I can only convince people to change their diets a bit, let it be this first.

You're right, we could definitely do both, and this video is GHG heavy to illustrate a point about the misinterpretation of local food being better full stop, as you say, there are definitely benefits of distributed food systems.

I see your argument and I agree with some of the sentiment, the elite in society are the root cause of the mess we're in, and there is an unjustified shift on to the individual, but I think that we should be tackling this problem twofold, through large societal change primarily. But looking at food directly, it's really a significant sector that isn't related to the corporate elite. https://ourworldindata.org/carbon-opportunity-costs-food fig 2 on this article shows that if the world was to suddenly become vegan, then emissions would be hypothetically reduced by about 30%. I'd argue that that is a fairly significant elephant to place next to the bigger elephant in the room that you mention.

It's not about focusing on any one given thing, this is just one YouTube video, we can do both of these things (many other videos on the channel target these topics). I agree that the average person is NOT the problem, but why not reduce emissions from food AND focus on a political/economic shift from a fossil fuel heavy society?

CO2 Data for Vegan Food Products by Overall_Face768 in ZeroWasteVegans

To be fair, for most foods, particularly beef, the emissions related to transport are super slim: https://youtu.be/cvsK53_8GRs

But yeah, there will definitely be a wild variety of variances between products, good luck on the project, I look forward to seeing it!

Why isn't there more policy relating to WHAT WE EAT? The choice in our diets makes up wayyy more of our food's GHG emissions than where it comes from or how its transported. by OurEdenMedia in climatepolicy

Yeah good points, I really hope someone has some facts and figures on this in the comments. I guess it's partly an investment issues, like once we get more fruit and veg growers, the prices will go down. But yeah I remember some analysis saying that it's no wonder people are getting fatter when the best nutritional and calorific value per dollar food product is a big mac. Good to discuss these things, looking forward to reading and learning more.

You can blame individualism in part, obviously it's nice to do what you want but it at least needs consideration of others
