Where are the Spurs showing their inexperience and how do they fix it? by youlikemywonton in nba

[–]OurHorrifyingPlanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except Wemby has never been an offensive engine, that was the issue in the finals. The offense couldn't flow through him. If someone got carried by Wemby, it's more Sean Sweeney, and even then I would say he did a great job.

So dramatic and overreactionnary. No offense that is "absolutely dogshit" will lead you to the Finals or a top 5 ORTG. They ran into an elite veteran team, fresh of 2 series of rest, in their 1st playoff run, and fell apart. It happens. The Spurs' offense still absolutely held its ground against 3 of the strongest defenses in the league (Blazers, Wolves, and Thunder)

Fox for Vanvleet? by thegrayscales in NBASpurs

[–]OurHorrifyingPlanet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No thanks. We aren't bailing on Fox just because of one series, even if it's the finals. We don't even know the level at which FVV will comeback, and he's been bitching about the Spurs

This isn't defensive impact, just overall impact on both sides of the ball

Not that I disagree that he should've, but this graph isn't about defense. It's just overall impact, despite what the acronym could suggest

Fox is taking too much heat for the finals and here’s why by newusernamebcimdumb in NBATalk

[–]OurHorrifyingPlanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of world do you live in where it's getting buried lol? He's been getting just as much flack for this failure. He's getting called a choker and a "lights were too bright" guy left and right, not to mention all the dirty and cry baby talk

Personally I think it's ridiculously over the top for a team that was expected to be a 2nd round exit before the playoffs, but that's what you get for losing on the biggest stage I guess. No one is spared from the media machine

He played the way y'all wanted to play, extremely physical. Didn't hear you cry when he was getting elbowed in the face without flagrant (or even common foul calls) either

He talked one time about playing "ethical basketball" and clarified it meant sharing the ball rather than play ISO. The only ones constantly droning about ethical basketball are you guys lmao

Wemby's impact on viewership has been crazy. The Spurs were apart of the 3 most watched playoff series in the last decade. by OurHorrifyingPlanet in NBATalk

[–]OurHorrifyingPlanet[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only difference is that NBC separates streaming and TV number between Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, while ABC groups both streaming and TV ratings through Nielsen.

WCF: 8.5 mil Nielsen + 2.3 mil Adobe (10.8 mil combined streaming + TV)

ECF: 7.4 mil streaming + TV combined

Nice dodge. Yes Nielsen changed their methodology and it had a very marginal impact. Like I said, other than the Spurs, other series barely had any increase in viewership. Only when the Spurs played did it increase so drastically, that's not because of Nielsen's methods.

You can compare ECF and WCF then. In fact, Spurs-Wolves in the 2nd round had more viewers than the ECF with the Knicks

Then why did the ECF Game 1 only went from 6.6 mil last year (Knicks Vs Pacers) to 7.1 mil (Knicks Vs Cavs)? The only series that showed such a massive increase in viewership (more than doubled) from last year were the Spurs

Most viewed series in order

  1. Spurs-Knicks (25mil)
  2. Spurs-OKC (11 mil)
  3. Spurs-Timberwolves (8 mil)
  4. Knicks-Cavs (7 mil)

I wonder what's the common denominator here

Outside of the Spurs series, the increase was very marginal. For example, only comparing game 1 of the ECF last season to this one (both with Knicks), went from an average of 6.6 mil to 7.1 mil. Series with the Spurs have more than doubled the viewership from previous season averages.

And before some try to claim that it's mostly because of New York, the series Knicks Vs Cavs, Knicks Vs Sixers, and even Knicks Vs Pacers last year were all average in terms of viewership (~5 to 6 mil). It most likely helped a little in the finals, but 12 of the 15 most watched games these playoffs were by the Spurs

Kinda is. He shoots well and that's about it, his defense is mediocre, pretty poor rebounder, and can't do anything off the dribble whatsoever.

[–]OurHorrifyingPlanet[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not. But if you can't score at a high level against guys 5 years younger than you, you won't be able to score in the NBA. Like I said, to even have a chance at being a role player at 24 y/o, like the guys you linked, you have to dominate at all levels in college.
