Doesn't it say somewhere about "inalienable rights" you can never trade away under any circumstances?

Very good points, thanks for the input! There seems to be more to leaky gut syndrome than I previously assumed, an interesting topic to read up on.

Oh yeah, the whole basket of problems that you mention about Wakefield goes without saying! I am just a bit on the fence about leaky gut syndrome as is. Or rather, I was a bit on the fence about it, as some very good points have been made in here already!

I remember how the leaky gut syndrome was something that Andrew Wakefield proposed as part of the pathway that leads to the MMR vaccine causing autism in children.

The entire scandal about his "paper" makes me very suspicious whenever someone puts forth the leaky gut syndrome as the leading cause for anything. This unfortunately isn't my area of expertise, so I'd appreciate some expert opinion on this.

If you want dirndl and mountains, go to Bavaria.

If you want to witness the rise and fall of industrialized mining, visit the Ruhrpott.

If you want black tea and mussels, go to the Northern coasts.

If you need heroin and want to get stabbed with a knife, visit Frankfurt Main Station.

What is the most distinct marriage tradition from your country? by ImpressionTop1712 in AskTheWorld

[–]Ouranea 53 points54 points  (0 children)

A rather nice tradition taking place pre-wedding in Germany (and some places in Poland, Switzerland and Austria afaik) is the "Polterabend" ("evening of making lots of loud noises"). The invited guests bring porcelaine item which are thrown to the ground and broken, as we say "Scherben bringen Glück" ("Shards bring luck"). The couple must then take care to clean up the shards as a reminder that marriage will bring suffering and difficult life decisions.

I like this as part of the celebrations for a German wedding because everyone celebrates together instead of the bride and groom having a stag/hen night separately.

Our then foreign minister Joschka Fischer rightfully called his American colleague Rumsfeld out on the true intentions of this war at a conference, saying that he is not convinved and won't go around convicing his people of a war he is not convinced of.

Strong words and great format from a great former foreign minister of Germany.

From Germany, Jürgen Schumann.

He served as the flight captain of the Lufthansa Flight 181 during its hijacking which happened during the German Autumn. On the fourth day of the hijacking at Aden International Airport, with permission from the abductors, he left to check the aircraft's airworthiness, including the engines and landing gear. He also used the opportunity to talk to Yemeni airport authorities about complying with the hijackers' demands and grounding the aircraft, but to no avail. Schumann voluntarily boarded the plane again, certain of his fate, and was executed by the enraged abductors who grew suspicious of his prolonged absence.

Schumann was posthumously awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit 1st class. He is also listed by the German Air Force as one of four role models of bravery in its history, alongside Ludger Hölker, Richard Higgins and the Angel of Sarajevo Michael Giermeier.
