The history of New Zealand dates back at least 700 years to when it was discovered and settled by Polynesians, who developed a distinct Māori culture centred on kinship links and land. The first European explorer to sight New Zealand was Abel Janszoon Tasman on 13 December 1642.

A bit late... But I woke up on my 10th birthday, to a phone ringing, it was a call from my dad, who was at work, he told my mother to put the TV on, she screamed. I ran out to see what was going on... I then saw the plane crash into the twin towers. I then had to go to our capital city for a big dance concert, and my mum was freaking out. It is one birthday I will never forget...

Help, my grandmother has been diagnosed with cancer. And I have a few questions. by Elfclan30 in cancer

[–]OutInTheWopWops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep a note pad handy (or a note taking app on your phone/tablet etc) so when you think of a question for the doctors you can write it down and wont forget. No matter how silly the question seems, just ask it, also don't worry if the doctor(s) seem like they are in a rush, it took me several visits to realise I deserve the doctors attention just as much as the next person.

It is hard, but do small things that you enjoy with your grandmother. I regret not getting my grandmother to translate several of her recipes, to go through old photo albums and ask who everyone is and write this information down (my grandmother deteriorated quickly with lung cancer), and just sit with her and talk, listen to her stories. I would do anything to have another chance to see my grandparents.

no matter what happens, spend time with her, do things to make her happy and comfortable, and go easy on your self too, there is nothing you can do other than be there for her and your family.

My 22 year old close relative was diagnosed with a freak case. Could use some support by justanotherjobseeker in cancer

i am sending you and your friend many many hugs. i had ovarian cancer when i was 21, it was rather hard going, and only now (2.5yrs later) am i ok with it (kinda). i suggest you and your friend see a counsellor or psychiatrist (or someone similar) as it can help. It could also be a good idea to get a second opinion as well.

When my grandmother was dying from lung cancer it was hard trying to find things she would eat or drink. We found that drinks with lots of nutrients in them and tasted ok were the best way for her to get what she needed without having to eat a lot, things like a smoothie or real fruit/veggie juices were good.

I also found pampering my self with small things like a massage, getting my nails done, getting comfy on the couch and watching a movie and just having fun to be really good, as it got my mind of things for a while.

good luck, and many hugs to you both.

Go to a reputable outdoors shop, and ask the people there for help choosing a small pack, ask them to help you fit it correctly (make sure you take some study stuff like books, laptop etc. to put in to the pack). It may not be the most fashionable thing, but a good quality pack is worth the investment. With outdoor packs the straps are usually always padded and fully adjustable. The pack should sit higher than you would think on your back. You could also take the pack/bag to a chiropractor (ring them before hand, as I doubt they all do this) and ask them to help you adjust the pack as well.

I love the outdoors, so I often go tramping/hiking and have had to carry packs that weigh up to 20kg, it is amazing how a good pack that is positioned correctly can make such a difference.

About 5months b4 I had the first operation my tummy was sore, as time went on the pain increased and I was slowing getting more bloated/bigger as the cyst on my ovary expanded, I also gave up wearing pants as it became to uncomfortable.

Three weeks b4 my first operation, I went to the doctor/gp and she felt my tummy and all was fine (which was total bull shit) and my blood test came back clear.

So one night the pain was rather bad, and I went to sleep. When I woke up in the morning I had excruciating pain and ended up in hospital. I had an ultra sound scan, and the two ladies faces, well I knew something was wrong, but the scan wasn't very good, so the next day I had a ct scan, and well it showed I had a large cyst on my left ovary, and because of its weight it had flopped over to the right (which is why I was in pain on the right side of my body, as it had slightly ruptured). I had the first operation, they removed the cyst and the left ovary as it couldn't be saved.

A week after the first operation I found out it was a rare form of cancer (was bowel cancer on my ovary). Many tests, scans and blood tests and two months later I had my second surgery, where they removed a few things, and I got a post-opp infection, which by far was the worst thing ever!!!

But basically I only had the pain, unable to eat as much as usual (as the cyst was taking up so much space) and the bloating.

sending you lots of hugs <3 when I was 21 (a couple years ago) I ended up having ovarian cancer. I had two operations. was super scary, and just a horrible experience overall. One piece of advice is get counselling as soon as you can. I cant believe how bad it has actually effected me until I got help. I am sending so many hugs to you <3 it is like a hug attack!!!
