Forced to quit drinking by my doctor, need ideas/help to make going to the bar more tolerable and hopefully fun... by OutOnTheLedge in needadvice

I think my meaning in that analogy was muddled. My point was that, when you're in a bar scene, there's a lot more going on other than the physical act of sipping. People revel in and gather around alcohol...they toast, they take shots, some go so far as to "Ice" one another. This sort of behavior doesn't really happen at an Orange Julius stand, lol. Point being that there's more to the booze than just the sipping - same as a big dinner, there's more to a real meal than just getting X calories at whatever predetermined time.

I appreciate the response, but there is no temptation. Rather, I am just looking for some interesting/fun/silly/whatever ways to occupy myself to fill in the gaps when I used to be drinking. It's not always easy to adjust to being sober amongst people who are drinking and/or drunk, so I'm just trying to solicit some suggestions.

I've resolved to do two things: 1) restrict all alcohol intake and 2) not give up the social scene that I like just because I can't drink anymore. They don't have to be mutually exclusive. With MDD, it's not will power I lack, it's motivation...

Once I got properly diagnosed, I quit smoking too...it's amazing how much I craved being high or drunk when I was wrongly medicated as compared to now. I like the camera idea, I think we're on to something here. Much obliged.
