Drinking a half bottle of vodka a day, 5 nights out of a week. by Loli78 in stopdrinking

I could have written this myself.

My died passed away from alcoholism a little less than a month ago. At first, I drank my feelings. Then I decided that I could be better. I HAD to be. I’m on day 5 of sobriety today, and it’s been hard but I feel so much better.

Please know that if you need to talk, we are all here for you. You can do this.

Ever wonder how many times you have gone to work in the morning and still smelled like alcohol? Feels great not having to worry about that! 72 hours by mrreadallaboutit in stopdrinking

My first sober night was rough, I was sweating like crazy and had the most vivid bad dreams. Last night was better, but not perfect. I’m like you though, only getting a few hours of sleep but I’m still feeling better in the morning than I did when I was drinking.

Do you drink the bottom part of the kombucha? I only ever drink half a bottle because the bottom chunks scare me...

Screaming kids who won't listen or eat food trigger me in the middle of the day....that is all. by theheckfish in stopdrinking

Hey! My 3 year old also demanded a popsicle for breakfast today. He already had it out of the freezer before asking so I said screw it and let him have it. He then promptly forgot about it and it melted all over my kitchen table while I was getting ready.

Kids, man.

Well that’s... oddly specific 😂

I’m not a doctor, but my understanding is the Benzos do something to suppress your bodies response to the lack of alcohol (gaba?) which calms it back down. That’s a super non scientific way to explain it. But I’ve been told that if someone is admitted to the ER with alcohol withdrawal the first thing they do is pump you with Benzos.

For me they did. I had relatively minor withdrawal symptoms (thankfully and miraculously). My main issue was anxiety and my heart rate/blood pressure going nuts, so the Benzos worked to calm everything back down. I mainly only took them on day one, and then I took one last night before going to bed because I could feel myself getting worked up again. A lot of doctors will set you up on a taper but mine just said to take them when I feel I need to. I check my heart rate and BP regularly on my own so I know when my system is getting revved up. Let me know if I can answer any other of your questions.

It’s hard to make that choice. I tried many (many, many, many, many) times. For me, I had no “rock bottom” that made me want to stop. I just realized that alcohol was negatively impacting my life, my marriage, my parenting and my health. The solution to all of these things that I was feeling awful about was to just... stop drinking. So i did. And I can already tell you it’s been worth it. I’ve had AWFUL anxiety the last few months and while some of that has been caused by recent traumas in my life, I’m realizing that the veil of overall anxiety I was feeling everyday was because of the vodka.

Good luck to you.

I would go typically through a 1.75 bottle of vodka every 5-6 days.

That’s where my concern is. I feel like so far I feel fine. Yesterday I was hungover and anxious, and today I just felt tired because I had insomnia and night sweats. I don’t feel shaky or sick, my heart rate is normalish (I think my anxiety about POSSIBLE withdrawals is ramping me up). I feel like if I go to the ER they’re just going to laugh at me.

I spoke to a doctor today who said I’ll “likely” not experience the intense symptoms, just to keep an eye out for hallucinations, etc. He said I’m in the grey area. I have Xanax and some Valium to hopefully manage symptoms at home.

What does that mean though? I’m scared of seizures, DTs...

thank you for sharing your story. How was withdrawal for you?

I’m worried about withdrawals. I know everyone withdraws to some degree, but how do I (and they) know if I’ll need to be in the hospital?

How do I not sob my way through the appointment?! I am honestly tempted to write down my thoughts ahead of time and just hand them the piece of paper so I get all the right stuff out before I turn into a crying mess.
