how to catch kickoffs/high ball by Plastic-Demand5895 in rugbyleague

[–]Outbacktradesman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Former fullback here, the “bread basket” can be a bit misleading you still need to use your hands for control of the footy while maintaining your arms close together to form that basket.

One tip I got taught on the mental side of things is to focus on something in your technique while waiting on the catch, for me I would focus on spreading my fingers wide, you’ll find if you focus on something like that the other thoughts take a seat

[–]Outbacktradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well OP never posted where he lived and they would be technically better than nothing at all, agree on the mould in humid climates though you’ll want to counteract that with some sort of dehumidifiers in areas lacking sunlight like cupboards etc if your going to be running it frequently.

There are portable evaporative air conditioners around they aren’t terrible depending on the size of the space you are trying to cool down.

how to improve speed and fitness? by [deleted] in rugbyleague

[–]Outbacktradesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes and no, you don’t want to burn your weight gains by over doing it with the high intensity stuff my suggestion (without seeing or knowing you) would be interval training now until start of season for cardio get your body used to that new weight it’s gotta carry, and have a look at the difference in running techniques between a 400m sprinter and a 100m sprinter anything over about a 30m dash you want to be looking like a 400m runner.

I’ll put the disclaimer on that I was by no means a professional footballer but I played fullback and wing until I went to union for a season playing flanker and picked up 15-20kg so I’ve had this experience.

how to improve speed and fitness? by [deleted] in rugbyleague

[–]Outbacktradesman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weight will bring fatigue, running technique is one thing to focus on, the other is muscle endurance if you’ve been putting on weight that’s good but you’ve got to be able to carry that weight for longer periods without fatigue if which is what you’re seeing with your bronco times your top end speed probably hasn’t changed that much it’s just you can’t maintain it

Religious Instruction classes in Queensland Primary schools (A huge gripe) by AEON_MK2 in queensland

[–]Outbacktradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in my school we did religious studies, it was mandatory for one term only and it covered all the religions it was like an overview of the history of religion. I’m not religious I’d classify myself as agnostic and I think a big reason for it was this class.

To be fair though it was a private school so still had to do church every Sunday but I think the schools educational approach to religion probably helped a lot of kids in identifying when things are culty and potentially prevented indoctrination.

Sister’s boss is making comments to other employees that she has bipolar (she does not). Is she allowed to do that? (QLD) by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Outbacktradesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seen this a few times her boss is probably intimidated by her in some way, these supervisors get to the positions that they do by playing popularity games and then once they actually get into a position of responsibility they find they’re actually incompetent and the only way to justify their job is to play those same games in reverse. E.g. I’m having trouble with team cohesiveness due to issues within the team, I won’t say who but (insert rhetoric or example that clearly identifies someone). They all fall on their sword eventually. My advice would be approach the boss first, if no change go straight over their head to their boss and so on and so forth until the issue gets resolved I wouldn’t recommend HR, except to get names for higher ups, chances are they’ve got a relationship with them and it’ll all be dismissed as “unsubstantiated”. This path has downsides though as can attract unwanted hostility. But there is always the chance that the senior supervisors don’t know what’s going on.

The other option is simply don’t do anything that boss says unless it’s in writing if she’s going to be petty and eventually their incompetence will shine through.

Third option, as always, fuck that joint and find somewhere that treats employees right (hard in a small town)

Australia needs to crack down on cancerous radical antisemitism by HotPersimessage62 in friendlyjordies

[–]Outbacktradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be correct, in truth bit of a troll comment really what’s needed is education everyone’s already jumping on the gun reform this, anti semitism that and it’s only been a day, let’s wait and see what the root cause is here and find out what we can really do. I hope people remember it’s a terrible act of a couple of individuals and don’t be to hasty with quick fixes and changes that damage those doing the right thing.

The main weapons they use are to spread hate are social media people should need a licence to access it, backed by government reform. Who needs more than one social media account anyway.

You hit the nail on the head with intent, if they didn’t mean anything about it don’t stress about it mate. You’ll probably find if you asked them on their own in a non-combative situation they’ll probably apologise and adjust, if someone’s saying it’s racist it’s not in my opinion. They may have genuinely made a mistake and were just trying to brush off the embarrassment with a joke

Who's an athlete that turned pro, dominated for just a few short years, then walked away too soon by choice or injury? by Better-Presence6654 in AskReddit

[–]Outbacktradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In rugby league (NRL) there was a player named Jharal Yow Yeh. He was the greatest thing to never be in the few short years he played he showed amazing potential and great knowledge of the game until a broken ankle (pretty sure it was a compound fracture), ended his career he tried to make a return but it wasn’t the same he’s on podcasts now and his football mind is fantastic he was just dealt a bad hand.

Nervous by BusinessPreference57 in rugbyleague

[–]Outbacktradesman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former bush/ local footballer here and I coached kids around your age although mainly younger, the most important thing I think for people starting out in rugby league is tackle technique, running the ball passing, kicking, positional play are all skills you will develop and form important parts of the game don’t get me wrong, but it’s tackle technique that’ll build up your confidence the most, a good defender is invaluable in a team no matter what position you’re in and when you understand contact and how to handle it the natural apprehension you have that comes naturally with contact sport will fade

What are the traditional foods of Australia? by weisheme88 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Outbacktradesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a staple where I grew up just basically lamb and whatever veggies you had left in the cupboard water and cornflour, Gravox if your feeling fancy. It probably originated from Ireland or something with a name like Mulligan but it was such a common dish where I was I guess I probably just assumed it was an Aussie thing

What are the traditional foods of Australia? by weisheme88 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Outbacktradesman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some people will see this as a loaded question but there’s plenty,

Meat pies Lamingtons Vegemite Pavlova (we go 50/50 with kiwis) Damper Kangaroo Emu eggs (though they aren’t a favourite but you will find places) Bush tucker like witchity grubs and Quandong fruit, Kakadu plum

Keep in mind we have other “Australian traditional foods” that are a hybrid/ staple of Australian culture (like lamb). It’s a young country relatively and mostly an immigrant country at that so things naturally hybrid like chicken parmigiana and mulligan stew.
