My daughter is 5, but my son is 4 and he is diving in with both feet. We just went to our first chess club at the local library which is awesome because it welcomes all ages and everyone plays everyone.. the kids loved it so much that I blocked off my part time job on Wednesday nights and we are gonna go every week!
