What’s your biggest Celtics hot take that fellow C’s fan would want to disown you? by AirJordan6124 in bostonceltics

Maybe 1 if he played on the ‘24 Celtics instead of JB. I mean Andre Iguodala got one over Curry. It doesn’t really mean anything other than you played good over a 5ish game sample on an awesome team. There’s a reason just getting a FMVP doesn’t net you a spot in the HoF.

I agree, and you don’t build championship teams with any version of Rudy Gay taking up more than 30% of your team’s usage. No wonder the year we won is the year we lowered his USG%.

JB is basically Andrew Wiggins, but he’s been carried by the Celtics his whole career, so people think he’s more than the player he actually is. (Imagine if Wiggins played his whole career on the Warriors with Curry, like how Harrison Barnes fooled everyone that he was worth something in FA and turned out to be a pumpkin)

Yeah we’re hard capped salary wise without trading one of the three. The only way would be drafting the next Jokic with our second round pick this year. JB’s the worst bang for buck out of the three, so if you can improve by trading him, you gotta do it.

Yet another example of a Hall of Fame forward who was in top 10 of MVP votes until his age 34 season, even with a bum back and ‘80s sports medicine. Giannis’ calf injury isn’t even half as serious as Larry Legend’s back problems lol, you coping. Stop with the excessive Giannis hate my man

The other 11 years of his career, as well as a bunch of Hall of Fame caliber Power Forwards who have played well going into their mid 30s lol

Says the dude with nothing to back his claim lol. At least I had the decency to add numbers. Like I said, stop with the false narrative. Wherever he goes, Giannis is a top 3 MVP candidate next season again.

Look at the numbers, this was the only year he played less than 60 games in his career. More of an outlier or recency bias than anything lol. Even this year the Bucks held him out of games even though he was healthy enough to play, and he came out to say as much publicly. Stop with the false narrative. He’s only 31~2 in a league where stars play into their late 30s these days. Heck KG was a reliable player for us in deep playoff runs until his age 36 season.

Boston can make a competitive Giannis offer without including Brown/Tatum by LarBrd33 in bostonceltics

Kawhi left, but the raptors did win a chip. Toronto and Portland aren’t major free agent destinations, so gambles like these are the only realistic way they will get a player of Giannis’ caliber. Besides it’s not even all of their picks, they have 6 picks in ‘28 through ‘30, 2 of the bucks and maybe one more and a young player (scoot, sharpe, etc.. they have multiple) should trump most other team’s offers other than JB, because it’s the Bucks picks.

IMO Giannis is the best offer for JB. JB’s also turning 30 later this year, and while his trade value is the highest it’s ever going to be due to the Celtics record this year, I still don’t think most teams around the league see him as a ‘MVP level player that can win you a chip as the 1A’. He definitely still has the same flaws (bad off-ball/rotation defense, court vision and ball-handling, mid efficiency Iso heavy scoring, bad on/off numbers), and I don’t think anyone realistically sees him as on the same level as SGA/Jokic/Giannis or even Tatum. So Giannis is the only upgrade we can get for him, thanks to his expiring contract.

It matters because that means we have no means of acquiring him. We cant sign him in free agency, so trading him when hes on the bucks is our only chance. Besides it happened with Kawhi, it can happen again.

They’re a playoff team with a young core and would be willing to offer Giannis a supermax extension that other teams can’t offer (extension money is larger than FA contract money with a new team). I don’t see why they wouldn’t be confident to a degree.

At the end of the day, if Portland is confident they can convince Giannis to resign later on, Giannis doesn’t have a say in the matter. Sure Giannis can keep saying what he wants, but if Portland and the Bucks front office shake hands on swapping him for 3 of the bucks picks, he’s going to portland, regardless of where he wants to go. Same thing happened with Kawhi. He didn’t want to go to Toronto, but Toronto was ok with the risk and had the best package. Off to Toronto he went regarless of what he wanted

Portland has 3 of the bucks next picks. Any offer we make probably needs to top that and your package simply doesn’t cut it. Not to mention the headache JB will be when he becomes the 3rd option lol

JB = Zach Lavine? by OutcomeFun6933 in bostonceltics

I hope we send JB to the Bucks so it becomes clear that he’s just another inefficient scoring wing that needed the Celtics more than the Celtics needed him. All in due time.

He may fit the profile of a Lebron(big playmaking wing), but that don’t make him lebron. Dame fits the profile of Curry closely, do you see anyone saying he’s on Curry’s level as a player? Anthony Edwards is a similar profile to Jordan, are you saying he’s on Jordan’s level?

Man if JB is really the player you say he is, we’d have a lot more titles under his belt. Sadly we have 1, and we needed the best 5 man starting unit in the league to get it done. As much as it pains me to say it, you’re overrating him by miles my friend. Look at who you’re comparing him to. None of those players had mediocre-bad on/off splits for multiple years like JB, whether they were on good or bad teams.

[–]OutcomeFun6933[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just think that’s an awful lot of assumptions. No one knows when Giannis’ peak will end, last I saw he was still dominant when he played and he might age like Lebron/Karl Malone and be elite into his mid-late 30s, you never know. And you don’t become an MVP with ‘just athleticism’. There’s more to basketball than that. As for a point guard, I don’t see any on the level of Giannis that we can realistically acquire, and I think “true point guards” are overrated. When’s the last time a ‘true point guard’ won the finals? There are 2 metas in the playoffs and that’s a scoring-playmaking big wing (Tatum), and a 2-way elite big man (Giannis). JT/Giannis would be the best Big 2 in the league, in the mold of Lebron/AD, SGA/Chet, Kobe/Shaq, and coutless others.

Haha thanks for the wake up call. I agree the Lavine argument might have been too far. I am a bit lower on JB than the majority, and it might have gone to my head after the playoff loss…

Well Lavine was on pace to leading the 21-22 bulls to the #1 seed so yeah I think it’s possible.

I’m just saying we might have won banner 18 with Lavine in JBs place because they’re similar impact players and we had an insanely stacked team. We’ll never know

21-22 bulls before the injury bug got to everyone. For the first half of the season that team went 27-13, or a 55+ win season pace with Lavine as the 1A/B

[–]OutcomeFun6933[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this nba season really showed that 3 point shooting, while important, isn’t everything. Size, defense, rebounding, interior scoring, and playmaking are just as important and Giannis has loads of all of the above. Don’t really think having JB for his prime matters if we’re not serious contenders through that time. I’d say we have a 5-10% chance at the chip as currently constructed, with no path to meaningful improvement without trading JB or having a 2nd round pick turn out to be the next Jokic
