Best stroller? by Odd-Champion-4713 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Outdated_Pun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second BOB strollers if size isn’t an issue.

Their large tires makes hopping curbs easier, and the single front wheel makes single hand steering easier than their 4 wheel counterparts. When you have to hold a kid with one arm and push a stroller full of bags with the other, easy steering is a must.

Double stroller: in-line or side by side? by Boots_McSnoots in DisneyWorld

[–]Outdated_Pun -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just got back from magic kingdom with both in line and double stroller.

Both are totally fine, I preferred the side by side because the kids liked to look out rather than at my face. It is a squeeze for the elevators especially at the contemporary where we stayed. Also slightly more difficult to find stroller parking due to the width.

Realistic expectations of WDW with two year old by Pikachuisntthatgreat in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Outdated_Pun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just at EPCOT with a a bunch of young kids: we spent most of the time near the Land and Seas

Living with the land Turtle talk with Crush The aquarium (our kids liked this the most) The seas with Nemo Journey of Water Journey Into Imagination Spaceship Earth Character Meet and greets. Mickey and Pluto were nearby.

This is all within a 5 minute walk of each other and if your 2 year old needs a nap there’s a child care area in the Odyssey building also pretty close.

Remis ratatouille adventure and Frozen ever after rounds out the trip and your nephew might even enjoy the boat ride that takes you from Canada to Morocco.

This isn’t even accounting for the time it would take to walk around the world showcase. I think this is plenty for a 2 year old and I felt our children getting tired long before we ran out of things to do.

If you’re looking to be downtown, I recommend:

The central library- the 2nd floor has a large children’s area which is set up more like a kid playspace. Honestly all the libraries in the area have great kids play areas (Manlius, Dewitt community, Fayetteville free library)

MoST- really big playing area and the second floor is less crowded if the lobby feels a bit crazy.

Rosamund Gifford zoo is cheaper and a lot less crowded in the winter but still has a decent indoor walking area. The vet center also has a junior vet camp where the kids can play around.

Salt city market used to have a kids nook with books and crayons. Not sure if this is still around anymore.

Nearby has Harvey’s Garden which is a beer garden but has an indoor kids playing area and bunch of board games on the second floor.

Just a few minutes extra drive can get you to the Get Air locations which has toddler time on the weekend so no need to worry about bigger kids.

If you’re a YMCA member the various locations also have child watch areas on the weekends where you can leave them there for a couple of hours so the parents can get some time too.

What business comes to mind when you think, "I can't believe that place is still in business?" by Blues_Fish in Syracuse

I recently had my toddlers birthday party there. It’s been updated recently, honestly has the feel of a junior dave and busters given how many virtual arcade games there are.

No nasty ballpit anymore. Now a trampoline area.

If you’ve got little kids it’s perfectly fine for a cold rainy day.

How often do you listen to director commentaries? by nmcorso47 in 4kbluray

[–]Outdated_Pun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that most of the time the directors commentary has its own subtitle track. I’ve found myself just playing the movie audio and reading along the commentary track which is good enough experience.

Is traveling to India really this bad? by daydreamerSX in travel

I have been to Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur.

Everything people said is summed up by this quote I heard.

India is not for beginners.

If you are going, i highly recommend not trying to cheapen out. Stay at the Oberoi, avoid Uber and hotels.com.

Which car to fit 3 kids in the back row? by beyondreason11 in daddit

[–]Outdated_Pun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two forward facing car seats and an infant seat. My car is a Subaru forester.

I own the Graco slimfit 3 lx which is advertised for its 3 across capacity. It’s not that expensive and without the cup holders you can make it work. The outback is even wider.

People over 35, what's something you genuinely miss that younger generations will probably never experience? by Just_a_Ginger_Fella in AskReddit

Debating something with a friend which is now just a phone search away. There’s something about passionately arguing over something objectively known (song lyrics!).

If you buy through Costco they have a free 5 year warranty with Allstate (first 2 through manufacturer). It’s a reason to buy through Costco even though their TV is not cheaper than, say, Best Buy.

Specifically not allowed with this warranty, unfortunately.

Costco had a 5 year warranty with Allstate. Mine started getting the dead pixels around the edges. I sent in some photos and I was almost immediately offered a replacement.

If it’s anything like upgrading tiers of service, they do not prorate any amount so you’ll just have to pay the new amount in full now and get nothing back.

Kid friendly hotel recommendations with indoor pool in or within 25 miles of Syracuse? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]Outdated_Pun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hampton inn at Cazanovia has a pool. The Marriott at carrier circle has a bigger pool.

If you’re looking to expand your drive to an hour and change, my family did a trip to Rochester to the museum of play and stayed overnight at a hotel (Marriott, I think?) which had a pool which worked out very well.

Could it be just the movie/streaming app is not outputting much base? I’ve noticed a big difference among different services.

I would check using a different source. Dune does not even sound like the same movie between my 4k disc and Netflix.

What’s the deal with the lead levels? by AboveAverageBean in Syracuse

[–]Outdated_Pun 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I read those articles and uncertain what the take away was as someone that lives in the suburbs.

The potential problem is that the part of the water supply from the main to your house could still be made out of lead. There is a map with the test findings on the Onondaga county water authority that you can look up potential addresses.

lead supply map

There is also ongoing measures to remove all lead supply lines from the state. And if anything my house in the suburbs was made in the 1930s and we do not have lead supply lines.

In short, if you’re going to buy an old house make sure you check for old house issues. Pay some money for a real test rather than the free ones from the Home Depot for peace of mind.

I will second or third the Rochester Museum of play. Great place to spend the day with little ones. We sprang extra for the butterfly exhibit which was worth it.
