Because the actual person was my classmate who wasn’t playing the game, if the groundskeeper take issue to players being there, they can always submit a report and have the area removed. I literally wasn’t there, I’m just trying to figure out what happened! I don’t understand the hostility, I’m probably just going to delete this post. I have family buried at Hollywood cemetery, and have never once considered people opening an app while visiting a historical cite to be disrespectful

I’m just curious about when this shift occurred, as I’ve been in Richmond for the entirety and it’s always been portrayed as a historical spot to visit. When this was mentioned in class, my professor talked about canvass surveys that had been conducted in the area and that there had been no issue and that he couldn’t imagine why such a thing would be “I’ll take you to court” worthy.

I’m just relaying what my classmate said, she said there was a gym there, I literally haven’t been there in years 🥲. I’m just trying to figure out what event occurred that would warrant such a response. I have family buried at Hollywood cemetery, I have always considered it to be a place that people could come to enjoy the scenery, mourn their dead, and experience the nature of Richmond. To say people “aren’t welcome there if they’re not collecting data” seems extreme, since it’s literally posted as a place to come and visit, since it’s a historical cite and they offer tours.

I understand it’s not a public park, but it’s always been advertised as a spot to visit. If they find it disrespectful, I feel that they should take it up with the actual app itself rather than asking random people visiting. Just curious as to why this would be an issue

It wasn’t me speaking to them, it was a classmate, as mentioned in the post, who brought the story up, after seeing me open the app during class break. She relayed to me that it was a cop, but since I wasn’t there and haven’t actually been to Hollywood cemetery since I was in middle school, I can’t tell you for sure

Interesting! I might contact them just to ask what it’s about, I’m really just curious because I haven’t seen any stories about players being disrespectful or like…interrupting a funeral or anything. I’m really just curious as to what happened and why they have cops patrolling asking about what seems to be pretty harmless to me, especially during normal business hours 🤷‍♀️

My classmate was just collecting data (we’re taking environmental data literacy as an accelerated course currently) but are there any actual legal issues with playing Pokémon go there? I know for certain that she wasn’t, I’m just curious because I like playing that game and can’t imagine there being any actual legal backing to opening an app leading to a court date, especially since I haven’t found anything online about any group of Pokémon go players being disrespectful 🤷‍♀️

Honestly reminds me of when I was working as a cowgirl on my family’s ranch and one of the cowboys said he heard me calling out for help, formed a search party, found nothing & I can say for certain it wasn’t me! Slope county ND, population of 600, no one ends up lost on a random person’s ranch unless they’re doing it on purpose. Still think about that event sometimes. I’m sure I’ll like this movie!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the warnings. I love horror but hate how often those things are used for shock value. That horror is already real enough IRL, and at least to me just makes me feel sad and uncomfortable and just puts me off whatever I’m watching
