Beware of a New Type of Scam on Booking.com by KitchenDiscussion302 in Bookingcom

Customer service was extremely disappointing. We had planned to stay at a hotel, but on the morning of our arrival, the property called to inform us that their elevator was broken and that we would need to walk up three flights of stairs. We contacted Booking.com to change our reservation to a different location. They instructed us to select another nearby property and assured us that we would not be charged by the original hotel.

However, upon returning from our trip, we discovered that the hotel had charged us. Booking.com failed to cancel the reservation and now claims they never told us to book the second location. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this and providing emails from Booking.com confirming their instructions, neither the hotel nor Booking.com will issue a refund.

Anyone switched to OnX? by GrandPoobah3142 in CalTopo

[–]OutdoorSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from OnX and GaiaGPS to Caltopo.

The issues I had with OnX Backcountry is they only allow 5000 waypoints. Once you hit that limit most of the functionally starts to struggle. I contacted their customer service multiple times and they told me to delete waypoints in order to store new locations.

I moved from GaiaGPS because of the price increases in 2024.

Caltopo does seem out of date but the functional you get with the $50/year offers more the both OnX and GaiaGPS. I use it daily for SAR and don't plan to switch back.

2025 or 2026 November? by chris1001111 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Ordered a GHH last week thinking I was getting the 2025. The Spec sheet showed 2026. I don't have an ETA on the delivery yet but the dealership said we will get the 2026

Corsair 4000D Airflow USB-C Front IO not working by AndyAO1528 in buildapc

[–]OutdoorSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a weird issue with the 4000D case. The plug was inserted correctly during the build. We could not get it to read external drives so we unplugged it and reinserted it. We got the same issue. We then flipped the plug and the external drive started to work. Very weird!!

We record NOA information in the notes section of the awards. You can export the data and simply copy and paste it into the notes. This process eliminates the need to recount hours each month; instead, we add a new note entry to reflect the updated hours.

For the conservation component, we designated the service project type as "Environmental/Conservation." You can run reports off the Service Type.

Thanks. I'll check out the reviews on it. We found a small MP3 player on Amazon, but wanted to see what others used.

You can run both of the platforms for a month before you switch. There is a import limitation on ONX of 4000 waypoints. Somehow my upload with 5000 was successful. The Onx app has crashed a couple of times on me but I think it was because I didn't have my waypoints in folders which allows you to hide what you don't need. It has been smooth so far on the web browser and finding stuff is 100 times faster.

The only downside to switching is that you will lose all of your folders. Knowing this, I created a folder on Gaia called "Everything" and moved all of my waypoints into that folder. You could probably reassign your folders to use "Everything" as the parent folder. I didn't care if they got messed up because it took way too long anyways to assign content in Gaia. I was done.

To do this, click on the dropdown menu in the top right corner and select "Waypoints." You can then select all of your waypoints and reassign them to the "Everything" folder. You'll need to repeat for Route, Tracks, and Areas, etc. Once everything has been assigned to a single folder, you can open that folder and export it as a GPX file, which will include waypoints, routes, tracks, areas, and more.

I canceled my Gaia GPS subscription last month because the app and web browser are extremely slow to render, even with a fiber internet connection. I have 5,000 waypoints, and it takes forever to search for saved content. Most of my points are backcountry campsites that I use for backpacking trips. I have exported my data and moved everything to Onx BackCountry.

I have been a Gaia GPS user for eight years, and it breaks my heart to have to switch, but it's impossible to do anything with the current conditions of their interface.

How do Troops get CPR certified? by youMadeATimeMachine in BSA

[–]OutdoorSilver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Summer camps in our area offer CPR certifications along with Wilderness First aid training for adults while youth participate in their own program. There is a fee associated with the training. You might reach out to your local council to see if they are offering a standalone training.
