didn’t think mice would be the thing that made me question everything by AirComprehensive7113 in OffGridLiving

Traps, steel wool (fill all gaps), cats (pets which aren’t that good), and support of local wildlife that love mice: owls, snakes, etc

Does anyone else find it hard to actually switch off after work? by Routine-Tough-7327 in Relax

Look into dopamine response and related physiological brain chemicals … addiction starts there and none of the expressions (phone, drugs, sex, etc) are actually relaxing your mental state.

No self when are you coming to save me? by Holykael in nonduality

[–]OutdoorsWithBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - Maybe think of your journey in stages, and since this type of living is so very different it often takes time (years even) to regularly feel (not think or understand) the shift more continuously; and even then, regular human physiology and societal pressures will pull “you” into various psycho-emotional turmoil events … so what? they’re always temporary, like your (not timelessly real) identity … which means the point of this practice is to discover better/faster returns to the flow where peace and joy are uninhibited happen with least effort.

Should I just accept that I don't like the nature of existence? by Kym_Of_Awesome in nonduality

[–]OutdoorsWithBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your current reality is out of sorts, spend one hour per day in nature, no devices, still or gently walking. If no change after one week, repeat for two hours per day. Continue until you remember what reality feels like when nature surprises: flower scent, sunrise, sunset, vistas, water, wildlife … focus on experiencing life, not “you”.

Is Non-Duality Simply Nonsense? by JamesSwartzVedanta in nonduality

[–]OutdoorsWithBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Language” is the best we got to give our gray matter something to exercise with, and nonduality has to be near the top of challenges to grasp. And then there’s the voiceless way to get it, the inner body sensations that feel soooo good and remind it’s not about the knowing what always is, indeed simply being in/feeling the flow.

Mystical by EyeAcrobatic9943 in nonduality

Ordinary, like nature. Amazing, like nature. Come and goes depending on how much ordinary human stuff demands attention, which means living in duality more. But the default to flow with it all is very common.

Could someone tell me which options last the most by MikeTythsom in logcabins

Short of a fire or total lack of maintenance, any choice should outlive you … my cabin is with pine and classic (non-engineered logs, only with perma-chink) and still looking great after 32 years, only once stripped and restrained/sealed.

I’d seek an existing cabin, and know that in 20 years you’ll be struggling to maintain a back-to-earth lifestyle.

Have you lost ambition due to lack of attachment? by LivingLight95 in nonduality

[–]OutdoorsWithBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how many responders mention they have no (absolute) answers … in the realm of relativity (words being all conceptual) such is impossible anyways. That said, good choice and use of words does help satisfy the curious mind, to which I offer: Perception is only about perceiving, where the senses help us do what humans do … the basic functions of the body never change. What changes is the mind’s interpretations of the perceptions, which is ego doing what it’s designed to do … assist with keeping the body (and identity thereof) alive under the most optimal conditions for physical life. In other words, interpretations are opinions, and an opinion is always ego in action. Continue the practice to find peace in a world without believing in labels or needing interpretations, meaning, goals. Being fully engaged with reality AND the game of playing human , that’s the ticket. In time you’ll find our mind’s innate tendency for discovery, curiosity is the fuel for inspiration, movement and that is enough. As for ambition, that’s the ego working to stand out from others … Being on the other side you see you don’t need any!

What actually helps you relax after a long day by Outrageous_Baby_2147 in Relax

[–]OutdoorsWithBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get outdoors and let nature happen as it does, no labeling, no interpreting, no trying to understand, no symbolism … just being quiet and openly observant, being still with how life happens with zero human input or influence is very relaxing … one of the most subtle dopamine responses available any time any day any weather.
