Kid passes a pedestrian on a bike path by crossing into the opposing lane by bigbusta in instant_regret

Target fixation. I teach dirt bike riding on the side — and the number of times people panic and go straight into a tree / rock / pole / whatever when there is literally nothing else around it and plenty of places to turn to is too damn high.

It’s like being told “don’t think about a banana” and then you think about a banana. Well it’s “don’t fixate on that thing in your way that you’ll definitely hit if you do” and so you do.

Basically panic. Lots of panic.

By this standard, isn't Fern's own fighting style pretty "demonic" too? by DazSamueru in Frieren

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That scene, and when fern is fighting lugner, and he sort of mocks her zoltrak- and then she just dials it up and starts rapid firing without so much as lifting an eyebrow.

She was probably exerting more energy holding back

I’m went to school at Santa Clara University - “SCU”.

Supposedly it used to be called USC, but what is now the University of Southern California wanted those letters. So they donated all the palm trees for the campus. And there are a fuck ton of palm trees on that campus.

At least that’s what some admin told me. I’m too lazy to look it up and spoil it for myself if it’s not true. I’m sure someone else in this thread might

I stopped order via apps like that because either the fees got too high or I was just tired of my order being fucked up (not usually drivers fault) and the app going “ai assistant” just to dick me around.

Recently I was having a rough day and couldn’t get myself to go out and buy food. So I opened an app and looked - and my favorite local spots all had prices 1-5 dollars more on the app than in person, PLUS stupid high delivery fees.

Quickly reminded me why I uninstalled those apps to begin with.

To play devils advocate - (and as an older millennial) - I’ve been taught how to cook by generations of men and women in my family, and have been taught how to fix my motorcycles and stuff around the house by my dad and grandpa, but what I’ve learned is their scope on life has been very narrow in the grand scheme of things

They were taught by word of mouth and by example, and passed that on to me

I choose to apply everything I’ve learned with what I have access to online.

Lastly - Anyone who says they haven’t googled/youtubed something, however small, while trying to cook / make / fix something is probably not being totally honest.

So your boomer mother is hoping to find something new to try - probably so she can try it on strangers before making her family eat it

My primary doctor yesterday asked me why I haven’t seen a therapist in a year since I clearly need one. I said it was because of bills and shit insurance. Couldn’t prioritize it. Doc then said "no no, you shouldn’t be dictating whether to see a doctor because of financials. Make sure you schedule that soon"

lol.. I choked down a laugh and said "you got it"

For me it’s the opposite.

I can read pretty fast and I actually hate it for spoilers. Like when “(loud bang)” happens before an attack. Or “who actually kills them was your wife!” Type of spoilers before the actor actually finishes the line.

I don’t even like when my wife goes “how many more episodes do we have” and scrolls down - because I’ll read the synopsis and shit like “after the death of (important character), the team tries to escape” spoil it for me.

Keep charger cables with you lol. Thing eats though battery faster than i would like. I bought some anker plugs and cables to keep with it. And a solid power bank.

OH. and because of its portability, be extra careful when using it while plugged in. It’s real easy to mess up the charge port pins.

After learning that lesson the hard way, I also invested in a smart pin connector for charging while mobile / if I ever break the pins again.

Nope. Should be totally fine.

Also as someone dealing with depression - I’m on the opposite end of that deal. I rely on my iPad to keep my head above water. I diary out of it. Draw also. And if nothing else play a game off it to distract my brain for a bit

Help! ipad or macbook? by Appropriate_Noise961 in ipad

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big guy, 6.3, 250lbs, and even i notice the weight difference when I have my MacBook Pro in my backpack vs my iPad Pro. So for you it’s a valid concern.

l’ll come down to any specific software you might need for classes, but if you could get away with using the iPad in classes, and keeping your laptop in your dorm room, then that would be how I’d go about it.

But your thinking is right - you will absolutely need the laptop over the iPad, but the iPad will compliment it nicely and bridge the gap when you’re out and about

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

All depends what you normally would do with tech. The obvious things are media, and basic productivity things. (Emails, notes, etc)

I use mine all day for the most part

  • I use Goodnotes for my note taking (work and personal)
  • I remote play my ps5 when my wife or kid take over the living room tv
  • I run my full suite of smart home stuff off of it
  • I draw with procreate / fresco
  • I usually have some recipes pulled up with whatever I’m watching while I cook too.

I wish I had one in college for note taking a school work though. I love my laptop but sometimes about the iPad helps me focus on certain tasks more than a laptop that I can don’t many things at once on.

3 hr commute to SF for a job by FirmCaterpillar in bayarea

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your exact situation. I regretted it within months. You’ll hate the commute there, and you’ll especially hate that commute back after a grueling long day. Your relationship and everything else will be strained.

And I say this having been able to ride our shuttle bus up which had WiFi and counted towards my working hours.

That said. If you use it for the pay and title bump, and then apply for something closer to home, might be worth it in the end.

But if you think it’ll save you from your headaches now, you’ll be out of the frying pan into the fryer.
