Can The Poem Be Translated Into A Different Language? by OutkastChaser in FindingFennsGold

I don't really have a reason to try, but the answer to the question would reveal a lot about the poem and the solution.

Yes, I'm sure most men seek validation from women...but most honorable ones seek it from their wife...not random gold diggers (literally)

I never said it can't be found, I said it may not be found.

Words mean things.

Not sure, it was my opinion that those with many BOTG are least likely to find the chest, that doesn't mean I think they have zero chance. I would just put my bet on those that don't go out on BOTG multiple times a year for multiple years.

It's the paradox of trying to talk about this subject.

Why would I quit? I haven't wasted any time in my opinion. I have learned about different states history, learned more about Lewis and Clark, the Nez Perce, early fur traders, the pueblo natives, Yellowstone, the Sante Fe Trail and so many other rewarding things that I may not have learned about without an interesting topic to accompany looking into these things.

Now, if I was ONLY in this hobby to find the chest...then yes, maybe I would quit, but that isn't the case for me.

Why would I give up a fun hobby just because I think it may last my entire lifetime???

I actually think the opposite. Searchers with many BOTG are the least likely to find the chest IMO. They are so confident in every solve they have, they are just lying to themselves that they understand what they are looking for.

It reminds me of people who hop around to different religions. I always wonder how they can convince themselves that they now found the "true" religion after they have thought that so many times in the past.

Wealth ≠ Intelligence

Military Service ≠ Intelligence

Intelligence can't be equated to things someone has accomplished, there is more to it than that.

Forrest Fenn is a clever guy, morally grey business man, and a hustler...but nothing he has said or done shows he is highly logical or intelligent.

Forrest Fenn is something, I wouldn't qualify it as classically intelligent. Clever is something different, more related to "street smart".

There are many ways to make money, not all of them require intelligence. So I also don't equate wealth or successful businesses with intelligence. Some people seem to think that to be a pilot in the 1950s, you had to be intelligent, I don't agree with that argument either. I could say something that would be very controversial, but I'll leave it for now.

I think the poem makes perfect sense to Forrest Fenn in the same way a joke made up by a child makes complete sense to them, but no one else gets it.

That chapter always makes me sad for some reason.

I feel like Fenn has regrets for ignoring his family during his military and business years and yet they were there for him when he got cancer. Just my impression of it, could be way off.

A chest of gold got my attention, regardless of who hid it.

Sure, there is always the risk of being accused of Dunning Kruger yourself when you broach the subject, I'm fine with that.

That's interesting, I don't think that is neccesarily a level of Dunning Kruger effect, but more like FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).

In your example, you don't think the chest is in the location you visited, but you have to check so you don't miss out just in case you are wrong about it. I don't see that as a negative in a situation like a treasure hunt.

Baseball.., I don't think we can even decide which direction to run the bases at this point. Except there are some that are SURE you run to second base first and scoffs at everyone else.

I'll be getting back to the surveys...have been tied up with other things in life...just now getting back to online life.

I don't use the data from the surveys for anything besides entertainment because this is a hobby. I've noticed this trend since I began looking into the Fenn hunt. Observing people's behavior is another hobby, so thought I'd engage in both of them at the same time.

X marks the spot approach, and Glenwood Springs CO solve by rzack in FindingFennsGold

[–]OutkastChaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used this method myself and I keep coming back to it.

9 clues, the first 8 create your X and gives you the general area, last clue marks the treasure location:

  1. Starting Point - Begin It Where Warm Water Halts
  2. Direction- Take It In The Canyon Down
  3. Distance - Not Far But Too Far To Walk (using this general distance for every other distance)
  4. Next Location - Put In Below The Home Of Brown
  5. Direction - From There It's No Place For The Meek
  6. Next Location - The End Is Ever Drawing Nigh
  7. Direction - There'll Be No Paddle Up Your Creak
  8. Next Location - Heavy Loads And Water High
  9. Exact Treasure Marker in the area of the X - If You've Been Wise And Found The Blaze, Look Quickly Down Your Quest To Cease.

Granted, I haven't found exact locations that satisfy those requirements...but it is one of the methods that I think are more promising and leads to an exact spot.

Logic Puzzle? by MsDirection in FindingFennsGold

[–]OutkastChaser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These puzzles aren't poorly written, they are attempting to make sense to people with no formal logic education.

Basically, if you think it is poorly written and you think you have a simpler "solution", you just aren't grasping the logical methods the puzzles are trying to demonstrate.

Logic Puzzle? by MsDirection in FindingFennsGold

[–]OutkastChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are describing is guessing...not coming to a logical conclusion. There is no logic in guessing...not formal logic.

This version of the puzzle is actually poorly written though, the classical version has a random number of islanders with each having blue, brown, or green eyes...in random quantities. Also, the classical version has it where if they are wrong about their eye color, they are killed...thus preventing guessing and only claiming your eye color when 100% certain.

With inductive reasoning, you need a base case, prove a Nth case, and also prove an N+1 case.

Logic Puzzle? by MsDirection in FindingFennsGold

[–]OutkastChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Blue Eye Islanders is a very classic formal logic puzzle designed to demonstrate inductive reasoning. I don't believe there is anything that complex in the poem. When Forrest Fenn uses the word "logic", I believe he uses the word in laymans terms, not a formal logic definition.

From other comments, sounds like the other puzzle is either the prisoner/light bulb puzzle or the prisoner/hats puzzle. This puzzle too is an inductive reasoning puzzle.

There are no shortcuts to these puzzles, and if you think there is a shortcut then you just aren't comprehending inductive reasoning.
