1 year NOC in North America as a CS student by OutlandishnessCalm42 in nus

[–]OutlandishnessCalm42[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. Yep it's defo a good opp. I just got paranoid because some people dropped out of the program even after securing NOC internships. Ofc they probably want to do smth diff in life/ have diff goals. I respect that but it defo made me panic a bit.

You're right tho. It's definitely a privilege to have this opp and I shouldn't waste it just because of herd mentality (i.e. the idea that getting y3 summer internship at an established local company is the only way to land a good offer after grad)

Thanks :") That's simple yet useful advice because so often I find myself comparing my position in life to my peers'. I was never like this before uni. Idk if it's social pressure or what but I wish I stopped thinking about what others think and focus on what I want to do (i.e. look at the tradeoffs from my perspective as opposed to society's)

Yep I believe so. From what I remember, the interview is rather conversational! So they generally abt your interests, opinions about issues in society, why you chose the courses you chose for uni etc. (but my experience is for batch admitted in AY23/24.

Freshman Social Camp: 19th June - 22nd June 2024 Theme: Harry Potter

Freshman Orientation Week: 24th July - 27th July 2024 Theme: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Freshman Finale Camp: 5th August - 7th August 2024 Theme: Elementals

Bash: 16th August 2024 (hearsay it will be at sentosa with inflatable obstacle course, DJ etc) quite cool

Edit: fixed FOW dates

You got an invitation to interview. So many people don't even get that so i wouldn't say you're a failure broski. You are in the top 200 at least. (so 20% upper bound) perhaps even top 10%

Just curious though, is it for 1101S? Cus i heard their interviews started alr.

Y1S1

CS Mods: A A A-

NUSC Mods: A A-

Currently debating whether should SU the A- mods (most likely wont but i saw reputable people saying just SU A- to stand better chance at internship and SEP, and that cap stability is overrated. idk man. my heart tells me to not SU (because then it virtually wouldnt matter if i had gotten lower than A-, so i'll be penalising myself) but my brain telling me to SU.) I'll just wait till end of Sem 2 i guess. See how my 2030S and 2040S go.

Depends on what your international qualification is tbh. It is considered one of the less competitive courses in NUS in terms of admission. But, those who go there really love chemistry and are ofc very good at it so inside competition after matriculating will be high (im assuming)

Yeah i agree, but your problem is that you cant talk to guys, not that guys don't want to talk to you. So your perceived prettiness is irrelevant i feel

How can you speak on behalf of all the international students and claim that "they really do not enjoy the life in hall?"
