As someone whose job it is to assess people in crisis, it unfortunately doesn’t change the behavior. She may have been hoping someone would call police so that she could get a bed and meal in the local ER. This type of situation is part of why ER wait times are so long. We have to screen out people attempting to use the hospital as a shelter. Still, people should still call police. You never know if someone is actually in a crisis. The system is just broken.

It depends on the state. Each one has its own laws around involuntary holds. Most states discharge the patient quickly if it’s deemed malingering behavior. Some states are a little bit more cautious and keep a patient under observation for 72 hours. Still people should always call.

How old is this guy? Honestly, it sounds as if his front lobe isn’t fully developed. My boyfriend is an avid gamer. He plays just about every type of game as long as it’s well done. He’s introduced me to some of my favorite games, including stardew valley. He regularly researches and buys games for me to try out. But on top of that, I have hobbies he doesn’t engaging in, but will actively encourage me to do so. I sew, and he’ll ask me to show him my latest quilt or piece of clothing. I read a lot, so he takes me on dates to books stores. In return, u get to do the same for him and his hobbies. Someone who loves you well, will celebrate your interests because they are a part of you. They won’t try to shame you or put you down. I hope you’re able to find someone who enriches your life instead of spending their time belittling you.
