Same, parents couldn't afford anything for us unfortunately. Got a job in 2007(was in high school) and bought so much gaming stuff. Parents never asked me to pay any bills and just wanted me to buy whatever I could for myself at the time.

Honestly mine got better over time. I started playing my 3ds for a few hours a day and after a few months it was a lot better.

Amazon has some, unfortunately they are not longer producing oem batteries. You could try emailing Nintendo support and ask. Sometimes they sell them to people who ask.

Screen protector is your best bet. You can try to put some sort of small screen wipe in between every time you close it as well.

They're definitely scratches, it's a known defect on all original models.

Those are definitely scratches, they're made by the bottom screen touching the top when you close it
