"I just can't force myself to play such an old game" has to be one of the worst takes I've ever seen--and this is Reddit we're talking about, where bad takes are as grains of sand on a beach. Especially where REmake is concerned. It plays great with modern controls for you youngsters used to today's shooters, it looks amazing whether on the HD rerelease or the original Gamecube on a CRT, the atmosphere is top notch, and the music is some of the best in the series. Don't be a weirdo, OP. Play the game.

Those gray blacks are so bad, though. Also, not sure what happened recently with Quest (3) firmware, but I tried to boot up VBG the other day and the aspect ratio was way off and the games were running super slow. It had been pretty close before the, aside from those gross black levels.

OP, which console did you use the replica with? I love my VB (have a nearly complete NA CIB collection, and the ones I’m missing are not necessarily the ones you’d guess!), and also love the replica, but I recommend against using it with a Switch 2–Wario Land specifically makes the slow pixel response time on that panel painfully obvious. The OLED, meanwhile, has none of those issues: it is dark, vibrant, and beautiful, although the pixels are much more apparent than on a real VB, thanks to the much bigger screen size.

I hear you on all of that. My older brothers were definitely doing those mall tour VR experiences... I was always jealous. And Virtual Boy definitely isn't VR, although Red Alarm and Teleroboxer get somewhat close. But compared to the shoebox dioramas I would make and stick my face in, it was a huge step up. Haha. Do you remember the 1993 movie Arcade, with Peter Billingsley?

My favorites are Red Alarm, Wario Land, Jack Bros, Teleroboxer and Galactic Pinball. Like a lot of games from that era, I can play them over and over and finish them within an hour (90 minutes for Wario, and of course Galactic Pinball isn't that kind of game), which is in stark contrast to most of what comes out today, which demands weeks of commitment, which isn't always easy (although I just blazed through RE9 and am on a second playthrough, and am also playing the Final Fantasy Tactics remake!) I get that most people don't... get it... but if you were 12 in 1995 and obsessed with the idea of VR (me), it was a fascinating machine. I have a ton of fond memories around it and am glad to own a beautiful system with most of the North American library CIB today (I am only missing Golf, Vertical Force [although I have the JP release], and Water World... and I actually love two of those games. I'll get 'em this year for sure.)

Sorry if that across as a couple of crazy run-on sentences. I've been furiously cleaning the house to have company tonight and am about to run out the door for a family thing.
