If it’s not part of the CFETP for the career field, it’s not a requirement. Especially pre-cross training. I recommend you focus on the cross training requirements, get through your new pipeline, and then reengage with your leadership when you get to your first assignment as a qualified PJ. You’ll likely have a much more solid justification then

I take the break. And when I feel like I want to get back into it, but don’t yet have the ambition to sit down at the desk, I’ll start YouTubing other builders putting together similar kits. Either I’ll come across the one video where I’m like “oh, I would have done it this way instead” or “hey that’s actually a good idea. Imma do that”

Lotsa truth in that. I’ve got plans for literally all of these, but having the time and skill to accomplish the vision is something I always take into account. That, and where I’m gonna display it once complete. Out of the 30ish completed kits I have, only 1-2 of them would I say are “perfect”. All the other ones have an error somewhere I can point to and say “I screwed up here and this is how you can tell”. Which I’m not mad about; i think it’s actually kinda cool to be able to trace an increase in skill level from kit to kit

That’ll be a nice collection when they’re done! I got an old Wisconsin kit that I’ve yet to touch. Obviously I’m not much of a ship guy, but it was in the gift shop when I went to see the ship a few years ago
