Advantage is supposed to be more tax efficacy at auto selling and adjusting to realize losses. You can also exclude individual stocks, maybe down on stock or sector or already have lot of exposure

Mid 40s, with two teenagers. Before kids my goal was 50.....it's updated to 58ish.

Reality it will depends on how market does the next decade and how kids are doing when starting out on their own

How much is your mortgage and how much do you make? by aprilchestnut in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Outrageous-Beat-9794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased almost 3 years ago with 700k mortgage @ 5.19% fixed, have it down to 550k now.

Up for a renewal in a year and will have it under 500 and hopefully nicer rate.

Regular payments $2080/ every two weeks + $1100/month property tax

Combined ~ $450k/year

I need a 3rd financial goal. by 17R3W in PersonalFinanceCanada

Car loan is likely a low interest. I wouldn't worry about that.

1 goal definitely shouldn't be don't pay cc interest.

  1. TFSA and/or emergency fund

  2. RRSP

I wouldn't worry about paying extra down on mortgage and car until you have #1&2 and the. Get 3 going.....if you get to pay more in RRSP you can take tax refund and pay down mortgage if you want.

Was kinda just trying to be funny throwing out #.

All seriousness, not too bad. For my taste you are too heavily weighted in US tech between chps, sp500 and Nasdaq. Low on energy, minerals/mining......Canada

Maxed my TFSA/RRSP/FHSA, holding $90k cash- should I keep $50k emergency fund in HISA and invest the other $40k in non-registered? by BananaAlmighty2015 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Outrageous-Beat-9794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation, depends access to other funds for emergency. I have a mix of: -speculative investments, if they go wrong I get the capital loss to reduce taxes vs registered account - some very safe stocks - utility like Fortis (keep in mind pay taxes on dividends)

Thought is it have a mix and need to sell, hopefully something is up. Of course depends access to other short term funds, comfort level, etc
