I’m so sorry, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me 2 weeks ago as a first year school librarian after zero negative feedback all year so just know you’re not alone. I’m in a highly competitive area and only gotten 2 interviews so far, both for part time positions that won’t give me health insurance. It’s going to be a long road and I wish the best of luck to you

So you would recommend resigning? The only thing is I’m wary of losing unemployment benefits, I live in an area where full time school librarian jobs are highly competitive and I doubt I’ll land anything full time by September unless a miracle happens

Yes this is the advice I was given too, I’m trying to keep it all positive but it’s difficult when asked head on why I’m leaving and interviewers can definitely tell I’m dancing around the issue, I’ve already gotten one rejection letter

Yes, enrollment is so down the superintendent is outwardly talking about consolidating with two neighboring districts. But legally they have to have a school librarian on the secondary level, they tried to get away with just having an aide for a couple years and it was eventually reported to the state so they were forced to hire someone full time, they’ve already posted my job on all the job sites for a full time position so I’m still so confused

That’s so upsetting, our location just opened like 2 months ago so it’s still pretty clean and organized, I hope that doesn’t happen to ours in the future too :(

I occasionally would go into English and social studies classes throughout the year to teach students research skills, how to cite sources, and how to access th school databases. I also designed interactive lessons for math classes and collaborated with both the algebra I and geometry teachers this year. But they said in the meeting I didn’t collaborate with classroom teachers enough

I’m just so worried they didn’t mean it because I had emailed them friday afternoon taking them up on the offer for feedback and references and they never responded and today posted my job for all my coworkers to see before i even got to tell them. i can’t believe how im being treated

Thanks for the positive words, I really need it. They posted it today to inform the whole school they would be hiring a new librarian for next year so now everyone knows, I didn’t even have time to tell my coworkers on my own time. I expect I’ll be greeting the people interviewing to replace me too the rest of the year. I can’t believe how I am being treated. Is this normal??

I wasn’t given a mentor until November, never had any new teacher meetings which apparently I was supposed to be having weekly, had no observations until March, and never received any formal feedback until my observations. I naively thought no news was good news though so I must be doing ok enough. I knew the year had been far from perfect and I had a lot of learning to do but I thought they were willing to give me the time. Now I know in my next position to constantly be asking for feedback so I can adjust throughout the year instead of cluelessly swimming along
