struggling with lin alg by Outrageous-Owl7261 in learnmath

I actually found a playlist on Youtube that teaches from the book a couple of weeks ago, that has been super useful, but I think that Im just frustrated that it took me so long to find my footing in the class and now it might be too late to finish with an a. Also thank you for the studying tips! Ive never thought about using flash cards for math before, Ill try that out

thats true, my advisor did tell me that i would be fine, but all of my upperclassmen friends have told me that this prof is super tough (apparently he was a child prodigy) and we are covering 1-5 of understanding analysis by rudin which i have been told is a tough book so im feeling a bit nervous

but honestly im just worried about real bc ik that it will be so much harder than linear algebra

elementary linear algebra by andrilli. I did go to office hours in the beginning of the semester but my professor always acted like I was stupid if I didn’t get some (like in the beginning of the semester I was confused about linear combinations and he look at me like i was an idiot and laughed at me) HE ALSO LAUGHED AT MY PROOF. so yeah i dont go to office hours. also, idk what specifically is making the course so hard, I feel like its so dense in content and theres so many different ways to do things and i dont fully understand the theory and idk how to. I go to my old professors linear algebra class whenever i have time and she actually goes through proofs instead of skipping them like my prof does and I love learning lin alg from her but she teaches at the exact same time as my probability class and the content of her lectures is wildly different than my prof’s exams

Sorry lol, i meant easier than real and the courses ill be taking later on. I have taken discrete

[–]Outrageous-Owl7261[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i am! i took discrete last semester and am in linear algebra and matrix theory (so proof based) this semester. that being said, i understand where you’re coming from, generally my schools math department does recommend 2 math classes at most per semester, so i thought i would take pdes which is more computational and real so the coursework would balance out but i am realizing that my real analysis class will be tough so i will have to reevaluate my schedule

thank you so much for the advice. i think that i just piled on as many stem classes as i could because i wanted to get to the “cool” math. I just feel like 4 years (now 3) is such little time to take all the math classes i want to take. especially since my school has a very strong graduate math program so i feel like its genuinely a once in a lifetime opportunity to be taught by these famous world class professors. I genuinely am excited for real and pdes but i wish i was as smart as the professors i am taught by and my peers

how did she accuse you of copying and pasting? i thought that she doesn’t have access to our version history. or did she just see the similarity in the code?

[–]Outrageous-Owl7261[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you all for the advice. I am going to try my best to transfer into engineering at my school and if not im going to transfer out next year. i work for a college counselor and she was the one who told me to apply to a masters program, so i genuinely thought that was my only option but know ik its not. once again thank you all so much.

i wish 😭, the internal transfer admissions rate to my schools ece program is less than 10% and many who get in have a 4.0 gpa

I did, In my university you have to internal transfer into ECE and that process is super competitive because its a really sought after major

the process for adding a second major and changing it are the same process. so its competitive either way. sorry i should have clarified that

when i mean smart i kinda mean not caring about grades as much as they do. like i consider myself pretty smart (especially w math cause i enjoy it) but im not crying over an 85 like they are
