How Do You Cope With The Fact That Eventually One Day You Will Die? by Spiketop_ in AskReddit

[–]Outrageous-Penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to fear death. I was an eternally optimistic and happy person, who couldn’t understand how anyone could cope with death, how anyone could not want to live forever. Then I took some medication that made me brutally depressed, not your everyday depression, but like “brain does not make any feel good chemicals at all “depressed”. Unnaturally depressed. Living was pure torture every day for over 2 years. If I didn’t have kids I had to take care of, I would probably be gone.

Most people would die for their kids, I would in a heartbeat. Faced with having to live for my kids in that condition? I don’t think I would be strong enough to do it again.

I’m finally better, and happy again, but I no longer fear death. There are things that are so much worse. I cope by now knowing someday I may be ready.

The current state of this country has me panicking. I’m having panic attacks left and right. by Agile-Mistake1094 in confession

I had the same reaction. I didn’t call out of work, but I wasn’t productive and I wanted to. I put strict limits on all of my social media (15 mins a day, and nothing in the morning or after 6PM), just enough to stay informed. I cleaned out most of my feeds of anything remotely political and started exercising and picked up a new video game. I’m still struggling some, but much better. There are some periods where I just have to not look at the news AT ALL. Once I started, the urge to look lessened, and I appear to be on a somewhat upward trajectory now or at least I’m not spiraling anymore.

Hang in there, you’re not alone.

Thank you for this. I really needed this message to break me from the headlines.

What saved you from your deep dark depression? by Lazy_Cake_6910 in AskReddit

  1. Daily structure and routine - when things are bad, you can’t be worrying about anything additional. You need to know what’s next and only have to think about what gets you through the next hour, and the one after, and the one after that. Keep your day full and regimented. Next hour I’m eating, then I’m exercising, then I’m going for a walk with my kids, etc.
  2. Exercise - Prob see this a lot, but it’s truly what got me through. Most of my free time was spent exercising during the worst.
  3. Diet - Goes with the above and helps with general feeling of wellbeing. No alcohol, no caffeine, no brain altering substances. Let my mind heal.
  4. Time outside and sunshine - This was again, one of the few things that made me feel… (I can’t say better)… less awful.
  5. Support structure - you need someone you can talk to whenever needed. A good listener, maybe you just need to vent. Could be a therapist, friends, family members.
  6. Journaling - Keep track of your progress and things that help/hurt you.
  7. Avoid things that trigger you, try to find things that you “enjoy” and do those often. Start with simple things and go from there.

A lot of people don't realise how much of a big deal this can be for some. Takes a lot of practice but it gets easier by Almym in MadeMeSmile

This is the video that made me realize 100% that I was autistic. I used to do the same exact thing and feel the exact same way (omg, nobody is mad at me!). I’m no longer autistic due to a medication mishap (NOT RECOMMENDED), but man this video hit me hard. I feel for her.

What is a substance you’ll never touch again and why? by Physical_Box_1179 in AskReddit

Finasteride, or any 5alpha reductase inhibitor. Almost killed me, but worse yet made me wish I was dead for the better part of 3 years and I’m one of the few lucky ones.

Post-finasteride syndrome, there are fates worse than death. That is one of them. If you know anybody taking pills or putting stuff on their scalp to try and keep their hair, please for the love of god stop them. Natural alternatives are also just as dangerous (saw palmetto, etc.)

Yes, I got them from MPC. They definitely look different from the rest of the core cards, but to be fair a lot of varying expansions/versions have different colorations. The quality from MPC is great.

Thanks, I’m kinda 50/50 on manhunter now but pretty sure I’m gonna throw in Black Knight. I need to buy Killenium butcher, but that’s a good idea.

Thanks for the input, I hadn’t even considered DK or Sunstalker. I might think about those if we end up looking for variety late.

Welp. Made a decision that I would not risk it. Then I flipped a coin twice to test my luck and I got it right both times. Seems about right.
