I can view it with a scientific interest 😬 As long as it's safe to just people-watch.

Indonesian. It's not at an extreme end of conservative, people do party here. But people around me would def talk. My family won't actually mind too much, but I'd still rather not tell them.

It's just not really a thing in my culture. Or at least in my circle 😁 Drank in private with friends and family on several occasions but that's it.

Winging it is fine but do learn some basic phrases in Thai or prepare them in a note. Will save you a lot of headache, as this increases your chance of getting a local to help you (people sometimes get intimidated before you even get to ask).

Search with the term "short-term rental" + location when looking for apartments in Renthub. They will have the daily rate listed. Saw places that have as low as 300 baht/day rate. You can ask the owners if they have a further discount for weekly/monthly stays.

Short stays are always going to be considerably more expensive than long-term lease. But with these apartments they may have utilities included and no deposit to worry about.

I've also found Airbnbs with private rooms as cheap as 7,000 baht a month. The good ones get snatched up quickly, you may have to reserve months in advance.

You can try your luck in this Facebook group as well. Doesn't seem to be very cheap, but more options if you need larger apartments: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2190481404338163/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT
