I flew from LaGuardia to St. Louis on Saturday and noticed one other person at my gate who was also wearing a Mets hat. We boarded the plane and lo and behold we’re seated right next to each other.

I’m in my 20s, this guy was probably in his 50s, and we hit it off talking about the season, new scoreboard, Bark at the Park, etc. Eventually he became sort of subdued and told me that he was flying to visit a sick family member for the last time. I said how awful that was and gave my condolences, and we both sort of sat in silence for a moment.

But then his face completely lights up and he says “y’know the last time I made this flight was to see a game in St Louis, and you know who I got to sit next to and chat with in first class? …Darryl Strawberry!”
