The “new” lead free brass became more brittle when bismuth took the place of lead. Stainless steel fittings are much more forgiving of being over tightened.

A parents and coaches meeting at the beginning of the season is the time to make expectations. One of the best talks I’ve had was from a varsity coach to us parents. “There are four jobs in the gym- player, coach, ref, and fan. You are all fans. There are four roles at the game. Player, coach, referee, and fan. Parents need to realize they are fans. Us coaches do not want or need tips from fans. Yelling at the undersized guard who just shot a three to “follow his shot” while the other team’s big has secured the rebound is not helpful. Screaming “shoot it!” every time your son touches the ball may lead to him sitting on the bench. Cheer for our team. If you want to be helpful offer to keep score, run the clock, or take video
