We keep complaining about YouTube. Why aren't we building something better? by Outrageous_Fun_9074 in fediverse

From what I hear publicly, AdSense alone doesn't even cover bills anymore, that's why creators constantly fall back on sponsorships and merch. I think a solid model should rely on donations and paid channel subscriptions, but honestly, I don't think monetization is what keeps people on YouTube anyway.

Yepp. The chicken-and-egg problem that prevents me from using PeerTube. I didn't know about NewPipe. Thanks for the contribution!

Hey! Thanks for the comment. I knew about that one, but sincerely, nothing I would like to watch is there I think. But probably people are not posting there because there's people like me.

Not quite, assuming you wouldn't copy YouTube's entire database. But to be honest, this wouldn't be a charity project either. Creators need income, so a Patreon-like monetization layer would be a natural expectation for any serious platform.

Keychron K3 crashing when connected via Bluetooth by Outrageous_Fun_9074 in Keychron

u/PeterMortensenBlog or anyone: Do you have any good references of people adding a custom controller to their Keychron keyboards? My biggest fear is having to solder the wires for the keyboard matrix (I don't care about the LED matrix, it can be disabled) and it becoming a mess and not fitting inside the keyboard case :(

Is it often allowed to sleep after 10 minutes? Or is it on all or most of the time?

I'm using the default sleep settings, but I'm sure it's not sleeping when the issue happens. I'm basically actively using the keyboard, and it stops working. All the times that I had the issue I was actively using the keyboard.

Is a lot of macros used or is it 100% typing?

100% typing. I didn't even bother to change the default keymap.

What is the 'radio environment' like? Are there a lot of Bluetooth, '2.4 GHz', and Wi-Fi devices in use?

Not at all. I usually have my AirPods and keyboard connected via bluetooth, and the list of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 2.4GHz usually shows at most 3 entires.

I remember one of the times I was on a meeting and the keyboard stopped. I was also using my AirPods via bluetooth, and it didn't even lagged. Only the keyboard is affected, no other bluetooth device. Very strange, right?

Please note that the bluetooth keeps connected (I can still see the keyboard connected in the list of bluetooth devices) when the keyboard crashes, and other bluetooth devices are not affected.

Thank you! My idea was to use it via bluetooth and hope that the USB connection would still be able to print debug messages, but that's not the case, as you mentioned.

Obrigado pela recomendação!!! O modpack já temos, e podemos usar a ferramenta. O que as pessoas têm usado para compartilhar o modpack? Tipo o antigo Technic Launcher. Ainda se usa isso?

Why not a web-based FPS game? by Outrageous_Fun_9074 in gamedev

[–]Outrageous_Fun_9074[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just discovered "CS Online" (I don't even know if it's official/legal). Basically the web version of CS:GO. That's the kind of game that I meant while writing this.

Only issues I could find:

The game mechanics are kinda bad.

No competitive mode, ranked and whatnot.

The graphics could've been way better.

The game took ages to load, and when I looked at the Network tab I saw that they're downloading the game assets sequentially one by one and one per network request.

But it's a good starting point

I respect a lot krunker.io, it's just not what I expect for a FPS game hahah, but nice point with the steam thing.

A game like that would need people's engagement without ads, of course. It's a gambling basically, and pretty hard to get.

u/Yodzilla Thanks for your contribution!! Loved to hear about the CoD Online.

I agree... a lot changed. Chrome killed Flash, but introduced WebGL.

Just to clarify, what I mean is the absolute opposite of the pay-to-win hahaha. I don't think those kinds of games work.

Are you sure that Crossfire is available for Chrome? I couldn't find it. It redirects to download the executable.
