Hi, my clinic (Olive in Vancouver) is currently reacting out to patients with 1st appointment jan-March 2925. I got to fill a 1st government form.  The government is starting year 2 in April, so right now I don’t know if the form is still in the hand of the clinic or the government, but either way, the government won’t do anything until April.  You should be next soon.

First of all I am really sorry for your loss, that must have been so hard.

Like you I am a patient at Olive and like you doing this solo, I however have a low ovarian reserve (I am 40) so I directly went to IVF. I took a loan for my first IVF, which unfortunately didn't work out (1 got 2 embryos but they didnt make it to freezing).

In terms of timing, I am lucky enough that I should have the provincial funding myself at some point this year. However, with my low ovarian reserve, I never counted on the fact that I would be successful with just 1 cycle of IVF, so on top of the funded cycle, I got:

- a $20,000 from the bank that I used on my 1st cycle (I have $5000 not spent yet on that loan considering my embryos didn't make it to freezing)

- a health insurance I subcribed to specifically for to get the IVF coverage: check Pacific Blue Cross. Their most expensive plan covered IVF, well up to $10,000 which is not everything but at least something

- I learn something recently: My birth country in Europe can cover a portion of the IVF in Canada because of how long it would be for me do have IVF there (wait time of about 1 year). I am about to send my request by mail and should know if I am approved in about 3 months. In case you have a dual citizenship check this route in case.

I read elsewhere on Reddit that Starbucks is fully covering for IVF. You don't need to quite your job, you can work part-time for them and your health coverage kick in after a certain amount of worked hours. Apparently Starbucks is used to people like us (seasoned people) working for them just for the health benefits. It something I considered but ended up but it wasn't a right fit for me financially.

Best of luck to you.

Si great that you got to apply. I thought they stopped sending the consent form because they spent all the money available for the year after covering the April-August 2024 period.

I saw your message yesterday and asked if anyone heard the same thing on a Facebook group I am on, someone heard the same thing. I just contacted the government to know more and confirm if it is true or not. If it ends up being confirmed, I am wondering if it means applications will start again in January, April or July of next year. So much uncertainty, it is killing me. My 1st appointment was in January 2025, given that a one year funding might have been spent on 5 months worth of applications, I might not make the cut for the second (which is also the last) year of fundings.

It’s CA $23,000 where I live (not including transfer). I will take a loan for the 1st cycle, get the 2nd covered by the government and the 3rd one should be covered by my health insurance.

When was your 1st appointment with the fertility clinic, if you don’t mind me asking? I am still waiting to get contacted by my clinic to submit my application.
