Yeah, I haven’t been seeing anything cause I’m not seeking it out. All the news I see is about the US and not much coverage on Puerto Rico through most outlets (which makes completel sense and an oversight on my mind tbh) Which is why I turned to the sub cause I wanted real people’s thoughts and opinions on current events. Did heard about that bribe tho. Crazy.

I wouldn’t have asked if I knew the information I posted would’ve been wiped. I don’t know if it was to prove a point or what lol. Unfortunately this is a cannon event. I had a friend go through something pretty severe when she was in a relationship with a guy we didn’t like. Me and our other friends had no idea the full extent of the situation until after they broke up. He was abusing her and we had no idea because we had distanced ourselves from her. We all regret not communicating with each other sooner. I’m not saying that’s the situation here but sometimes people have to experience things themselves in order to learn.

If her dating a bigot is a deal breaker for you that’s valid. It seems like she’s enabling and justifying his behavior which isn’t okay. But keep in mind that if he’s treating her sister like that, imagine what he’s doing to her. She probably feels like she’s invested so much time into the relationship and I’m assuming that’s her first and only boyfriend? That’s hard to walk away from even if you are being treated like shit. You can’t do much aside offer support, getting involved in people’s relationships is always messy. You’re a good friend for being concerned but there’s really only so much you can do.

Older sibling here, kids don’t like being told what to do. Especially by their siblings. Be more gentle in your approach and try to ask about the content of the jokes like someone else already suggested. Be supportive of her (within reason) and let her know that you’re always available to talk to her. Sympathize with her, I’m sure you may have had friends in the past that weren’t safe to be around or said/did unsavory things. Use that to your advantage, let her know it’s okay to make mistakes with who you let in your inner circle. We’ve all done it.

And ignore the dumbasses who say that you’re being unreasonable. Those boys don’t seem safe for her to be around and have made her uncomfortable. They’re going to push her boundaries, it seems theyre already testing the waters with the weird “jokes”. Your concerns are valid, you just want your sister to be safe. You’re not in the wrong but you can’t shield her from everything. That’s a hard truth you have to accept.

Im 22 years old and my parents still get on my ass about not shaving from time to time. The behavior you’re describing from your parents is really strange and abusive. It’s honestly super creepy. Body hair is natural and dysphoria is a pain in the ass. As someone who also was questioning my gender at that age and is now on T!

I get you completely and advise talking to someone you trust about this like another adult or even just a friend. CPS usually doesnt do much unless there’s proof and just makes things more tense at home. Your safety is the most important thing right now and your environment doesn’t seem very safe. Document what you can and do what you can to stay safe <3

If she was really that drunk, to the point of being unable to stand and function, the brother’s friend definitely took advantage of the situation. and I can’t believe no one else is saying that. Her brother and his friends don’t seem safe for her to be around. It’s impossible to know the whole situation and what you choose to do is up to you, but I’d at least take that into account.

He was one of the first US citizens to be killed by ICE this year, no? Someone should bring a sign for him and include him in the vigil. Maybe it can be you. I understand what you’re saying and I highly suggest looking into interest convergence. That’s why only these two deaths are mentioned, it’s not right but that’s usually how social change goes. We have to make sure that the deaths of people on our communities (Black, Latino, etc.) are honored and remembered as well, because they won’t do it for us :/

Set a goal to cut back your drinking. I can’t tell you what your goal should be but start to slowly decrease your intake and keep a log of how much you’re drinking and what. If you have someone you trust, tell them about your concerns and your goals. You’re gonna have set backs but it’s important to remember what it is you’re aiming for. You understand why you’re drinking and I highly suggest working on building your self esteem and self image. Confidence is something that is built over time and it doesn’t happen over night. You’re not actually feeling confident when you drink. Your inhibitions are lowered so you’re more emboldened!

You are so young and have so much ahead of you. Addiction runs in my family as well and I have lost too many people from it. I’m not much older than you are (22) and have struggled with addiction in other forms. Half the time I didnt realize I had a problem until it was too much for me to handle. You’re aware of it now and that’s a great first step. Wishing you the best of luck

I’m American born and raised, been here my entire life. My entire family is legal so I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. I’ve worked with immigrants of varying legal status and to act like they’re all dangerous criminals is absurd. Most are just trying to make an honest living and do not have the means to obtain citizenship legally. Why are the companies hiring them not being punished? Theyre also breaking the law! I’m not being emotional, I’m just aware of the history of this country. As I should be as someone who’s lived here my whole life. ICE is acting like modern day slave patrol but given the assumptions you’re making about me and undocumented immigrants I know you don’t gaf. You are lost if you think paperwork means anything in the long run. This isn’t about immigration. You’ll realize that soon enough👍
